Question EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

Those photos look great in the Engadget review. I'm no camera or photo pro whatsoever but wanted to get some opinions. I was thinking of getting a 8-10 megapixel point and shoot camera but was wondering if the Evo would be a good fit this role?

I wouldn't purchase the point & shoot camera to do any professional photos of course, but I like great crisp photos. Are any of you going to be using this phone as your main point and shoot camera? I welcome your input.

Thanks!

Re: EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

It will be adequate for well lit areas, but I have my doubts about anything else in regards to cellphone picture quality. My Mogul/Touch Pro/2
all had terrible picture quality when compared to a proper camera.
The main problem is that everyone is so focused on megapixels when that is not how you create a good camera.

Re: EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

the pictures looked great to me too... shoot, if i can get pictures like the ones taken in the Engadget review during the day, i could lighten my travel load since i carry my point and shoot with me everywhere, and then only bring it out during the night.

cant wait for the next generation of camera phones with SLR quality photos and maybe interchangeable lens.... sike!!

Re: EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

The best phone camera so far is the Palm Pre. If EVO can take picture like the Pre, then you can use it as you point and shoot camera. I believe the EVO has a flash too.

Re: EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

The EVO has dual LED flashes and should be fine for your day to day quick shots. It will definitely replace my camera in several situations but not all. I would wait to buy a camera until after you see how low light shots come out

Re: EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

Based on the pictures I saw in Engadget's review, I'm sure the Evo will be my "every-day" camera, no problem. Those pictures are great. Even CNET said the camera was awesome, and they always say how crappy HTC cameras are.

However, I like to do more "professional" photos from time to time, and I have a Nikon D60 that I use for those. I definitely will still be using that. Although the Evo's pics are great, they're not nearly as nice as my DSLR. lol

I will also probably never use the 720p video. I have a 1080P full HD camcorder that it can most obviously not replace.

Re: EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

I doubt this will take the place of a high quality point and shoot, especially in low light and moving situations, ie taking a pic of your kids soccer game. But it's probably the best cell camera out so far.

Re: EVO as Primary Point&Shoot Camera

i wouldnt go as far as to say its the best cellphone camera. htc cameras have always been underwhelming. i have a iphone 2g that i received and just use for music. i am honestly still blown away as it takes better pictures than my current touch pro 2 or any other htc device ive had. (every phone ive ever used on an actual cellphone has been HTC from my first Tmobile Wing)
