HTC EVO 4G Review!!

Ok so I just got done at a training for the Evo and I got to play with one for about 45 minutes, and let me just say that it is rediculous!! I mean that in the best way possible! I will list below some of the things I did with the phone and what I thought of that feature:

4G Speed: I live in Atlanta and was right in the middle of the city pretty much, so the speeds were great. I was getting between 4-5 mbs each time I did a speedtest.

Talk and Browse: So seems I was in a 4G area I was able to talk on the phone and browse at the same time. The feature was very nice to use and it is about time we are able to do something like that. When using that feature everything worked perfectly and there was no lag in the internet from being on the call.

FM Radio: Very awesome feature and once again it is about time for a feature like this. It worked perfectly and I was able to pick up all the major radio stations around Atlanta.

Pics and Video: Now a lot of times even when the camera is a lot of mega pixels the picture quality isn't necassarily that great. That was not the case with this. The picture quality and the video quality was awesome. I will post a pic below of what I took, but I probably won't be able to post the video. The zoom on the camera is very nice and I miss having zoom seems they took it off the TP 2.

Google Goggles: Awesome application and as soon as I took a pic of something, it took about three seconds for it to scan the picture and then less than a second for it to pull it up on google and tell me everything about it.

Flash: Ok so many are saying it comes with flash lite and it actually isn't full flash. That may be, but if it is, then flash lite shows hulu, because I went to hulu's website seen the videos on there and clicked on 30 rock and it played. I didn't leave it on for long just a minute and then went on to something else. Someone posted they were able to see the commercial before the show, but not the actual show. Maybe that is what I was seeing and was just so excited that I didn't pay attention it was only the commerical preview before the actual show. I would assume that seems it played that part of it, it would play all of it, but from I what I have read I guess not. I wish I would have watched longer and payed attention a little more, so my apologies if that is all that works and not the actual shows. I also apoligize to everyone if I got many peoples hopes up, I was just so excited and trying to listen to the speaker at the same time, I just didn't pay that close attention to what part of the video was playing. I seen video playing on Hulu and was like whoo hoo!! But I got too excited too soon I guess.

Processor: The phone was super fast and switching between applications was very quick and smooth. The browsing, texting, etc... were all very fast without issue.

Battery Life: I only used it for 45 minutes but in that time I didn't notice a drain really. I asked the person whose phone it was and they got it like four days ago and said that the battery life is very good and is actually better in 4G they thought.

So in all honesty the phone gets a perfect review from me. If anyone has any questions about the phone that I have not posted about here, feel free to post a question and I will answer to the best of my ability.

Overall Score: 10/10

Thanks for "real person" review. For some reason, all the mobile sites who sent their reps to launch events, their comments do not mean a lot to me. Maybe somewhere in a back of my mind I think they will write whatever it takes to post what people expect to hear. Now regular user reviews, to me, are more valuable.

How's the weight and thickness of a device compared to TP2?

Thanks much for the overview! I'm guessing you probably didn't have a chance to try out the bluetooth but here's my question... is there any add-on app/software that comes on the EVO that lets it bluetooth voice dial without needing to initiate it from the phone itself?

i seen the dummy model which i was told is perfect scale. seemed as thin as the top half of tp2 or close

Umm how exactly did you get hulu to work? I tried numerous times and the commercial plays but the shows never starts...

Hows sprint tv, I read it streams high quality thats watchable, Is that true. Sprint tv on the Tp2 is crap

Re: HTC EVO 4G Review!!

Ive never used Sprint TV on a different device, but this 1 runs it really well. It was a little blurry, but no major hiccups or distortions

Do you have to have a set of headphones plugged in to get the FM tuner to work? or will it work with out headphones physically plugged in and streamed say to a set of bluetooth speakers?

You need the headphones, just like any other htc device that has an fm radio.

Good info bro, wish I could get my hands on one. For the FM radio will wireless headphones work? Never had a phone that got FM.

Just like any other device period. My N96 has a radio. The headphones act as an antenna

Yeah me too, not to mention that I have a tendancy to be clumsy as hell sometimes so the less wires the safer me and my evo will be.

yep..bestbuy does have "mock phones" available. I loved it! Now I know the feeling of holding an HTC Evo.. it's amazing... the feel, design, and specs of the phone are apparent, and I can't wait for the real thing! I compared the weight of the phone with my TP2, and it was the same. The size of the phone felt good in your hands, and the screen was enormous! The kickstand was my favorite! oh, btw.. I recorded the whole thing...here ya go.. recorded with my TP2, and quality isn't so great.

The phone weighs half of what the TP 2 weighs. It was very nice to not feel like I was hold a brick. LOL!

No didn't try out blue tooth and I am not sure about an app like that. Sorry.

I didn't do anything special I just clicked on a show, I think 30 rock and it came on I watch for a minute or so and went on to something else. Where did you use it at, maybe a bad connection or something.

yes you have to have head phones plugged in to use the FM Radio. That is what you use for the antenna. You could plug in computer speakers and use them also.

Re: HTC EVO 4G Review!!

Reading the engadget review about 4G being spotty is starting to turn me off on the phone. That and the questionable future of 4G with more people using it. Personally that is one of the defining features of the phone, but if you lose signal just going into a coffee shop? Damn that sucks. Most of the time I'm inside buildings. Right now I'm on 30 SERO ,and for this phone my bill would jump to 80 bucks. My TP2 is a little laggy at times cause it is Winmo 6.5, but for the most part runs great and does everything I need it to do. I try to convince myself how much better life will be with the EVO to try to justify the huge plan price increase, but I think I'm starting to trick myself. In a few months the giddyness of having the EVO will probably wear off like every other phone I've had, but I'll be stuck with an expensive plan. Anyone else in the same shoes? Or am I the only one feeling like this LOL. Feel like I have the angel and devil sitting on my shoulders, the devil telling me to buy the evo and the angel telling me I need to save my money.

Sprint's official news release stated:

Adobe Flash technology ensures that rich Internet content, such as embedded video and animation, are displayed the way they are meant to be seen.

but there is nothing about Flash in the official fact sheet.

I agree, wouldn't this be the biggest thing on all these reviews if it were true? I hope we're wrong.

How was the keyboard? any lag at all? thats other issue i have with my Hero

its just you, and others who dont fall into the pre-release-hype. you dont want it if you gotta harp on everything negative. (losing signals in a building, what you TP2 never had a sucky signal somewhere and started roaming?) it wont be perfect, nothing ever is. but its a HUGE deal because its new. yes the initial hype may boil down after its release, but this doesnt seem like the type of phone that will fall off the meter. Its like iPhone caliber right now. Peole will love it or love to hate it. It aint goin no where, unless they start exploding in people pockets. Wait for the few months for people who dont like it as much as they thought and scour ebay/CL for one used and price is knocked down a lil. but the sprint fees aint goin no where. But like anything new, u gotta pay to play man. You want that luxury/performance, u gonna spend a lil more for it. American way.

it has flash lite like what's on the droid incredible. and if the droid incredible cant stream hulu, neither can the evo. even if his unit magically had flash 10.1, hulu is blocking content http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/f...medium=twitter

hulu is a sensitive topic. everyone wants it because it's inaccessible to us. if bigchico says it works without actually trying it, that's a big no-no. there's just nothing to prove that he's telling the truth, so he can't expect us to believe it. like i said before, this is an instance of pic or it didn't happen. no hard feelings.

I'm talking strictly 4G, TP2 does not have 4G and no, I get very good signal with my TP2 in buildings. And lets face it, 4G is in the name of the phone "HTC EVO 4G". If you cannot get good 4G signal in a building it is concerning. When the review from Wall Street Journal says "However, the data speeds I got in my tests weren't spectacular, or anywhere close to the typical maximum Sprint claims, even in Baltimore, where the company's 4G network is mature.", its a bit dissapointing. Anyone with 4G aircards want to chime in and tell us what kind of coverage you get in buildings?

Im in the same boat my Houston compandre (sp?) lol.....I have the TP2 as well and on SERO ($30). The situation is complicated because the TP2 has a big screen , a keyboard , and I only play $30+/month. I previously had the TP1 and the TP2 was GOD SEND!!!!!!!!!!!

Going to the EVO is really just a "want" that comes with a higher price tag :( . However, I have to get this phone. I will get this phone.

What will make me sad/mad is months later when a 4.3 Android WITH KEYBOARD comes out...but until then I will revel superbly with the EVO.

Now off to look for sneaky discounts to lower my Sprint bill...........

Hello fellow Houstonian! Glad I'm not alone! My TP2 is a great phone and I'm trying to find reasons not to like it LOL. I already prepurchased mine from Best Buy at Gunspoint. Think I'm going to add a line with it and keep my SERO for a a week or two and try it out. If I like it and it delivers everything as promised I will keep it. I just hope the huge increase in plan price is well justified. What scares me is we can't ever go back to the $30 plans. Where you get'n yours?

LOL @ Gunspoint.

I will get mine at BB or Sprint store if I can convince a rep beforehand to somehow "forget" to change my upgrade date lol. If either scenarios fail I will just get it at Radio Shack for the $20 gift card.

I was on the fence about getting the EVO after sprint blind sided us with the 10 fee and the insane 30 for wifi router. With the reviews coming in about the device I am really about to forget about this device. I may hold out until a price drop or perhaps jump at the TP2 for now...I would like a larger screen and with the TP2 I can still run wifirouter for free. Then again, my TP is working ok just slow by todays standards. It still makes calls and the 3g connection with my netbook tablet is snappy.

Watching tne reviews of the browser are killing me but I still cannot see spending an insane amount more for this device just to havge spotty 4g service.

I keep hearing in my head.. "a fool and his money soon part ways." - lol

hey video was playing on hulu. whether it be a commercial or a show. It is still video on hulu and it was playing. So I could really care less if you like or dislike the review or if you think it is discredited. Don't hurt my feelings any.
