The EVO will load webpages faster than the TP2. Here's why.

The "dan@sprint.com email" thread got a little off topic so I'm starting a new thread for this discussion. I am not an expert by any means, but it doesn't take an expert to understand this.

There seems to be this debate that the Evo will not load websites faster than the TP2 using the same 3G or Wi-Fi connection because the connection speed is the same, but this is an incorrect assumption. I'll try and explain why.

CPU:
The processor is responsible for a lot of tasks, and in web browsing, it must parse all the HTML and execute the JavaScript so that it can render the web page. The RAM may have all the packets stored and ready from the connection, but the CPU takes its turn to process all of this information and make it visible to the user. Therefore, a 528MHz CPU will not be able to render the page as quickly as the 1GHz Snapdragon. Period.

RAM:
It's possible the RAM may also be a bottleneck. With 512MB of RAM on the Evo, the allocated memory to the browser will most likely be much larger than the TP2 which has an inferior 288MB. This allows more information to be loaded into the memory at once, allowing the CPU to also handle more at once. Again, the page will load faster. Also, I'm not sure about the bus speed or if there is a difference between the two devices, but if the bus speed is lower on the TP2, that will be another bottleneck to consider.

So, you see...you could have a 30Mbit/s internet connection running Wi-Fi to your TP2, but its hardware will not be able to keep up. Even the Evo will not be able to compete against the hardware of a modern PC or Mac, but it WILL be a noticeable difference over your existing PPC (with the exception of the N1 or Incredible).

Go ahead and look on the net for comparison videos of faster smartphones loading the same webpage on the same 3G/wi-fi connection and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hopefully we can put this issue to rest.

Check out the last video on the page. It's the N1 (1GHz) against the 600MHz LG Ally on the same wi-fi connection. Quite a big difference.

If the Evo loads pages faster than a Touch Pro 2- it doesn't matter.

The Mogul loads pages slower than a Touch Pro 2- is Sprint going to lower my bill if I go from the Touch Pro 2 to the Mogul? Heck no.

I am already paying for unlimited data on my Touch Pro 2. So why should my bill go up just because my new phone loads pages faster over the same connection?

Unless Sprint is willing to lower my bill if I go down to a Mogul from the Touch Pro 2, then they should not be raising my bill when I go from a Touch Pro 2 to an Evo in an area that doesn't have 4G.

Did they raise you bill when you got the TP2...nope! And they dont have to do anything there are plenty of other comanies you can switch to you you dont like Sprint.....That what the tell me when I complain...lol

I've been told the same. When I brought up the $199 TP2 on Verizon thing when it came out, retentions said "Sounds like a good deal, you should go join Verizon." lol
