Obviously boredandtattooed didn't see the ridiculous arguments going in the thread here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=120957 among other places.

Re: Sprint Evo will not need $29.99 hot spot add on to access standard wifi

OMG im so confused for some reason.... well i know why im confused, but the mods get mad when i mention my 'habits' publically.. LOL

so they thought, one couldnt buy an unactivated EVO and use any wifi to run said EVO??? why the heck wouldnt you be able to ya know?? your just turning on the wifi.. just like you can turn on the radio still, wont get data or calls, but the radio will be on technically

and why is it they dont understand hotspot means taking the EVO and broadcasting OUT to other devices, not the other way around...

any phone with wifi should and probably can accomplish that.... i can turn on my touch pro.. turn on wifi.. connect to wmwifi from another activated device i have.. and recieve all my emails, browse the web, make skype calls.... all from an unactivated phone that just has wifi on it... its no biggie...

thats like saying you cant turn bluetooth on and pair it to something because the device isnt activated... its just so silly LOL

The paying for WiFi thing wasn't just people being paranoid, it actually says you have to on the www.sprint.com/evo site as shown in this post:

Thank you for contacting Sprint regarding wifi service.

You need to add Hotspot add-on for $29.99 in order to Wi-FI to function on EVO handset.

We value your business and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Please reply to this email or visit Sprint.com/mysprint if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Saxon P.
Sprint"

WTH?!
So it wasn't just a bunch of morons getting paranoid- Sprint actually said you had to and we took them at their word.

Finally, you.

While you may say nearly anything you want, and post what ever you want on forums within reason, you kept posting this and kept posting this as if this was confirmed, to be true, and verified, by you. Because it says so, in some text, somewhere.

I could care less, but for unsuspecting people that are new to the community or smartphones in general.......... its not right. /end rant. Thanks for confirming p-slim!!! (even though anyone with common sense knew this already.... )

No they are not. I would hate to have to remind them of the rules, I think we are all old enough to let things pass. Thanks for understanding guys! Now back on topic.

Hey genius, it wasn't only me. In case you didn't read the post you just quoted, it was not my email to and from Sprint when Sprint confirmed that you would have to pay for it. it wasn't only in some text somewhere, it was on the Evo website and then later confirmed to be true by Sprint customer care. I'm as happy as the next guy that it turned out to be fasle (assuming WiFi still works once the device is activated and not disabled during provisioning), but I am not the one who started that thread, took that screenshot, or emailed customer care. So I was clearly not the only one worried about this.
