I've been using "force roam" on my HTC Touch for close to two years now and have only switched to the "Everything Plan" last month. I think it actually is free (who would have thought, I kept expecting and HUGE bill [-o<).

On a related note, I will be receiving my Evo soon and would like this option as well. I will gladly pay for any app that a developer might create that will make this possible.

You might try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073

Its NOT roaming however it is....Let me explain.

Sprint and Alltel (now Verizon) have a roaming agreement. If you use Alltel's towers it is the same as if you used Sprint towers. In other words your not in roaming but you still use Verizon 3G. Verizon 's 3G is faster than Sprint's 3G. You will not be charged for roaming because technically your not roaming. This may help people who have bad Sprint 3G coverage but have good Verizon 3G coverage. If it makes you feel comfortable you may turn off Allow roaming in the phones settings.

I do believe you need to be rooted to do this. Which is also very easy to do now just go to this site on your Evo:
http://unrevoked.com/m/
Tap download...and install. Thats it. your rooted.

Thanks for explaining this a little for me . . . makes sense now. I have 1X for Sprint coverage and EVDO on VZW/Alltel network. 1X is just pathetic for data!

Sweet, worked great.......I'm on vacation @ a lake in northern MN & have poor Sprint service. Changed prl, now have full bars!

Re: Forced Roam on the the EVO or Android?

I tried to change my PRL via the "techknowfile's" deal and it didn't work. lost all bars and phone couldn't find service at all. Not even 1x.

I DESPERATELY need a force roaming app for android. I have had it on every singe WM device i've owned and it was absolutely critical to my battery life while at home. Would seriously tripple my battery life. I have VERY spotty sprint service at home, and verizon is full bars. FML.

P.S. - I am not rooted because my phone is on the latest update.

Do it all the time.... I put in a Verizon or USCC PRL and it force roams all day long. I get EV on Verioon PRL 51831!

Wirelessly posted (TP2 Biznitch: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

Changing your prl isn't going to make it force roam though. The prl is. Preferred Roaming List. So when your phone roams it uses the towers in the list.

@ wayne call sprint and talk to the customer service center. Tell them your service sucks because there is no signal in the area. They will research it if there is no signal in your area they will offer you sprint airave it is a mini cellphone tower for your house. you can get excellent signal for up to 5,000 sqft. Works great I have one and use it all the time. How the sprint airave works is a simple voip solution for sprint. The xda solution I have been using it for I would say a few weeks now and It works awesome from what I can tell if your looking for signal at your house and you have sprint and also I highspeed internet connection perfered cable or dsl at least 5mbs then the airave will work for you. Hope this helps.
