No Data and Voice simultaneously

Is this a deal breaker for anyone?

Certainly isn't for me.

Latest info is that 3g voice and 4g data are being tested and likely to be ready before release.

Being that this is still the nicest phone i have seen for sprint i will still be buying it even if it does not support data and voice at the same time. I am confused however that the capability is there but they are basically disabling it. :(

I'm hoping for a skype app that'll let us do Voip as well as vid calls.

So, why is Sprint saying they are testing it? Of course that press release also said it may not work.

Additionally, since this device is dual CDMA/Wi-Max (with calls going over the CDMA network and data being handled via EVDO/Wi-Max), the ability to make voice calls and have a live data stream running concurrently is possible. As of right now Sprint says this feature is still in the testing phase. If the testing is successful, then Sprint will be the only CDMA carrier to have this feature available in the U.S. Market and it will also kill those AT&T ad's that laugh at Verizon and Sprint's incapability to run dual data and voice streams.
Oh well, neither does my Touch and neither did my 6700, Sammy a920, etc. I'm still drooling over the Evo....

Well lets look at a few things:

1) What about doing data and calling via wimax? and they included a front camera for a reason so they have it planned. Maybe even their own VOIP app who knows...

2) It said it may change in firmware update

3) It is on Android which is open source..maybe with a few tweaks we may be able to hack it to do voice via cdma and wimax for data. For cdma this was a spec limitation but this limitation is not so we may be able to find a way around it

Yes, it's a shame that I'll have to pay attention to the person I'm talking to and not ignore them and surf the web.

I was thinking more along the lines of being able to still have mifi going so if one person is talking on the phone another person could still be using the internet on long car trips. Most people don't (i don't think) surf the internet on their phone while talking, AT&T just loves to make it look like everyone does it.

You got the right idea actually...I use my cellphone to tether via wifi for my laptop and when someone calls I loose internet..and worse is when that person who is calling is asking me for something that I gotta get on the internet..so I have to hang up and get back to them via instant messaging or email and can't help them on the spot.

It is not a deal breaker but it is desired.

But as stated its not a hardware or spec limitation, just software limitation..we will most likely have it hacked in not time.

I think this sums it up nicely :)

Again, though, if they're touting it as being able to act as a mobile hotspot, they should get the simultaneous voice/data working so that if you get a phone call, you don't disconnect the other 8 people that were using your data stream ](*,)

But, then again, their mobile hotspot app might just enable DDTM mode so that calls go straight to voicemail while it's acting as a hotspot (but that would kinda suck)...

Either way, definitely not a deal breaker for me...
