Re: HDMI Dock

So I think BestBuy screwed this up. The Snapdragon in the EVO (see: wiki) can only decode 720p.

From wiki:
Quote:
The Snapdragon application processor core is called Scorpion and is similar to the ARM Cortex-A8 core.[1][2] All Snapdragon processors contain the circuitry to decode High-Definition (HD) video at 720p resolution.[3]
...
The upcoming HTC EVO 4G also uses the Snapdragon QSD8650 1GHz processor under the hood, due to be introduced for Sprint.[13]
...
Qualcomm expects to launch two products in 2010[14]:
8X50A: 1.3 GHz; 45 nanometer technology; available in endproducts at the end of 2010
8X72: dual-core, each core clocked at 1.5 GHz; capable of decoding 1080p
So essentially the chipset can only decode 720p fast enough. Or am I reading this wrong?

You're reading it right. Yep, it can only output 720p. Good to know. Still not a dealbreaker.

Agreed. It's still a "carry all the time" device that does 720p output via HDMI. Deal is definitely not broken, although I hope it does sound via 3.5mm OR HDMI or both. I don't have an HDMI receiver

In those situations you should use either the optical/digital/analog audio out from your tv and put it into your receiver. This will solve situations where you have portable devices that only output sound over HDMI.

I still want to know for sure what the hdmi out jack is. type-d or a?

also since it says hdmi 1.4 I wonder if tether would be possible..
The EVO has a type D connection on it. HDMI 1.4 just means it's compatible with all the new features of 1.4, but it should still be backwards compatible with all the previous versions.

the connector on the dock to connect to the tv/stereo/ect..

and the big new feature of 1.4 is networking. (this is more relevant to the evo chipsets)
