well as my ppcgeeker above me said. your pretty much stuck. only way to do it is root. its really not a hard thing to accomplish. as long as your boot loader 1.30 or 1.40 its a easy task that is reversible.

Do you know if one can root the phone, move the desired apps to sd, then revert back to S-ON unrooted and still expect the moved apps to work appropriately?

My guess is that would be a nasty mess of stuff going on, but it makes me curious.

i had a few rooted evo 4g and other phones, all off them took the biggest dump after sometime being rooted. as far as evo 3d, it is very good without root, and this is happening after the last update (mid to late aug)

idk what to tell ya. I've been unlocked on every phone i ever owned. never caused me a issue.
