Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
Looks like there is another chance for anyone not happy with an evo3d to get out contract...Sprint had stated that they are increasing their administrative fee to $1.50/line. This is considered a change in the terms of service and will allow you 30 days from the date it's put into effect to cancel your contract without penalty. So if you just got a new shiny contract for upgrading to the evo3d this is your way to get out or go month to month.
Tons of people are reporting success in the Slickdeals.net. Maybe this info can help someone here. |
Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
I haven't looked into these much before, does cancelling your contract/way to get out/month-to-month all or any mean you are also dropping your sprint service? Or is this in effect resetting your $150 upgrade availability to immediate?

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
I did this last time they changed their fees. I moved to ATT for an iPhone. Then came back for the first EVO. I will be placing a call and seeing if I can get back on a month to month due to this increase. I am seriously considering leaving Sprint again soon for the iPhone 5, if they don't get it. I am torn due to unlimited data while capped everywhere else.
It WORKS!!! |
Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
OK - I just did the online chat and rep told me he would cancel me w/out an ETF, but he would not take me back to month to month. I then said "So basically, you rather lose two lines of service all together than put me back on a month to month contract and retain me as a customer". He said, I'll forward your concern to the appropriate dept and you will receive a call within 2 hours.
We'll see how that goes. If they refuse to do it...what my plan will be is wait until October 5th or so when it's very close to iphone 5 time and call back. If they continue to refuse, I will cancel effective my billing date which will be around late October. iPhone should be out by then. Then i'll get that. |
Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
my guess is that they are estimating most of these to be empty threats just to get out of a obligation so there probably wont me much effort to save the line. if you called complaining about the administrative fee being raised then maybe it would be considered more legit. the only way to get out of your contract would be to terminate service i would imagine, since by just removing the contract doesnt do either side any good when considering its all because of a fee, your still paying it. basically they are saying "if you don't like it, go else were" lol

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
Where do you see this stated increase? I want to call but I don't want to be like "I just read about it on a website..."

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
No go for me. They are telling me they don't have to let you out of contract for this change.

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
a contract is a contract....if they change the terms, you should be able to get out of the contract no matter how long you've been with them.
don't bother calling CS, go straight to retentions 877-775-4886 |

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
they HAVE to let you out of contract because this is a change to the contract, the benefit is that you don't have to pay the fine to get out contract.
When You Don't Have To Pay An Early Termination Fee You aren't responsible for paying an Early Termination Fee when terminating Services: (a) provided on a month-to-month basis; (b) consistent with our published trial period return policy; or (c) in response to a materially adverse change we make to the Agreement as described directly below. Our Right To Change The Agreement & Your Related Rights We may change any part of the Agreement at any time, including, but not limited to, rates, charges, how we calculate charges, or your terms of Service. We will provide you notice of material changes—and may provide you notice of non-material changes—in a manner consistent with this Agreement (see "Providing Notice To Each Other Under The Agreement" section). If a change we make to the Agreement is material and has a material adverse effect on Services under your Term Commitment, you may terminate each line of Service materially affected without incurring an Early Termination Fee only if you: (a) call us within 30 days after the effective date of the change; and (b) specifically advise us that you wish to cancel Services because of a material change to the Agreement that we have made. If you do not cancel Service within 30 days of the change, an Early Termination Fee will apply if you terminate Services before the end of any applicable Term Commitment. this is per thier terms and conditions. Terms & Conditions. ( this is the link on their site that backs this up) the notice will be on your next bill. Administrative Charge Increase &Terms & Conditions Changes for Consumers Effective 9/9/11, the Administrative Chargewill increase to $1.50 per line for customersthat receive the charge. For details, visitsprint.com/taxesandfees. In addition, theSprint consumer Terms (Ts&Cs) are changing. Please review them carefully at your local Sprint store or sprint.com/termsandconditions New contract can be found at - Terms & Conditions ndconditions#sept9 Sprint will increase the ETF fee to $350 for all contracts effective September 9, 2011. You have until 9-30-11 to completely cancel your services without getting an ETF if you cite the reason being the increase in the Administrative Charge. They will not allow you to just cancel your contract and go month to month. People who are claiming that they achieved this need to make sure their service isn't slated for complete termination or after 30 days of continuing your service you will be put back under your existing contract. Sprint has an Executive Office that can do anything they want to do. Every time I have a problem that the normal CS can't fix I call them and BAM it's done! Call (866) 727-0665 and ask for executive customer service. They are really helpful!* this is all copied paste form the Slickdeals.net post with tons of success stories there. |

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
Does anyone know if this works on a per line basis? I presently have 5 lines and 2 of them are for family members that are no longer using their phones as they decided to get their own plans to get an iphone and stuck me with paying for their lines until the contracts for those lines is up.

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
Ya keep calling, they pulled this crap a couple of years ago. It took me between 5-10 calls and they finally let me month to month and because of the hassle they threw in a $25 credit. If Tier 1 of Customer service doesn't work work your way up to Tier 3 and if that doesn't call the CORPORATE office aka EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE. They will let you month to month. Personally I wouldn't even deal with retentions. That group has become hard a$$es...... and the rarely help out anymore. IMO

I did this... have 5 lines, cancelled 2 to save money...
Got no probs at all cancelling without ETFs... both lines were only about 6 months into contract renewals even |
seems People arent realizing there's 2 Separate loopholes here..
1 the admin fee.. 2 the ETF increase Either will get you out for free... I also believe if you go month to month, you won't be eligible for Premier Status anymore, thus losing upgrade abilities later on.... correct me if I'm wrong on that one |
Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
I have been calling all morning, and basically ended with this:
"Legal has now issued a followup notice to all employees that no rep is to let someone cancel due to the administration fee." Any ideas on what to do next? |
U will miss the fun

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
This is a great post, here's what happened to me.
I called the retentions number posted by OMJ, after a short wait a very nice guy answered the phone. He asked why I wanted to cancel my service. I told him that I had no intention of canceling, I mearly want my contracts voided. I also said that I recieved an email from a friend that said sprint had made several changes that affected my bill. He told me that spam was sent out with false info. I started to get a little upset. I then told him that I looked at my bill and saw the supposedlly fake charge. He then told me that since sprint did not go over 3 dollars, they did not break contract. I said, I am looking at the TOS right now and I dont see anything like that. I told him that I did not appreciate the run arround and I will not be one of those customers that just gives up after a little heat. He asked me to wait and said he would get a manager on the line. Then, in classic sprint cs fasion, I was disconnected. But after about 10 mins he called back and said he had spoke with the powers that be and all contracts on all my lines have been reduced to zero. Kind of a long story but I thought it was worth sharing. Thanks for the great info. |
Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
Does getting out of contract automatically qualify you for full upgrade credit immediately?
Otherwise I don't see the big advantage if I plan on sticking with Sprint. |

Still no luck for me. Hours of arguing with them on every call, several calls (all for over an hour each) over the course of 3 days, and they aren't budging.

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
I'm a little torn on this. I have used this admin fee increase crap to get new phones in the past. But I recently got a 3D on my line and handed off my 4G to the wife. I really have no interest in leaving sprint and don't want to pay for a subsidized galaxy s2 either.
What are the chances of getting some sort of plan discount with them to stay? Does anyone have any experience with that? |

Re: Cancel your Sprint contract with no ETF (9/9/11-10/9/11)
I'm ready to jump ship. If I could get Sprint to let me out of my contract, and Verizon had a phone comparable to the Evo 3D, I'd go to Verizon in a heartbeat. I'm sick of my crappy service (data speeds have gotten pretty bad, and coverage has also been pretty bad in my area lately). And now with them nickel and diming nonstop, Verizon with their great coverage and great data speeds aren't that much more expensive.
