Re: 6.5 vs 6.1

after touring several 6.5 ROMs, I found nothing of great interest except maybe the better PIE/IE... going back to 6.1 now... (I detest the 6.5 Start menu and don't really like the new big menus either).

rather than bigger menus, I think I would prefer a bigger screen (ala Touch HD or even just a TD2... Sprint?)

Re: 6.5 vs 6.1

the start menu on the 6.5 is one of the things i don't like.
i like it on the 6.1 where we can get our fave apps immediately.

But the main thing is speed.
6.5 has gotten better - i agree, but it is still not as fast compared to a good configured 6.1 rom.

perhaps 6.5 will never be great in a diamond due to hardware limitations?

I think that it is important to qualify how you are performing that "measure". What items are important to you and withing that category, what counts for good, better and best.

Start Menu: 6.5 = worse
I agree with you, the start menu is much, much different than what my usage patterns expect. Even where I have stuck with a 6.5 ROM for a period of time, the transition was too difficult for me ... it had a negative impact on my ability to use my device.

Speed and Responsiveness: 6.5 = worse
In every case, every task that I tried to complete with a 6.5 ROM seemed to be slower than completing that same task with my 6.1 ROM.

Battery Life: 6.5 = worse
This really surprised me, because the general concensus that I read seemed to indicate that I should expect much better battery life in 6.5 and I did not experience increased battery life.

Usability: 6.5 = worse
Admittedly, I am a 80% stylus user ... the new finger scrolling features in 6.5 actually have a negative impact on my ability to use a stylus in the way that I have in the past.

Fit and Finish: 6.5 = worse
More than any other area this is probably incredibly subjective ... but I find the user interface elements; the rounded edges, the today screen, to be a work in progress, less professional (if you will). The crispness is gone. Like going from XP with themes turned off, to Vista on first boot.

6.5 was also not as stable for me.

Best regards,

Try the new 23001 build:

battery life is longer for me than on 6.1

there are so many themes that look so amazing. on TF3D you are so limited to just channing BGs and buttom icons, etc. But with Bliss, Wm7, Canalog clock...

If you know how to customize it, it can be much more user friendly, much more finger friendly (i know you use stylus but i never do), and everything runs really fast. Rhodium also runs very fast so if you want to switch to manilla its basically like having 6.1

The builds are getting better and better. 23001 is pretty awesome. In a couple of weeks 6.5 is going to be even more stable, and I am getting better and better batter life with every build.

I am downloading da_reeseboy's 23001 rom now and in the process, noticed a pretty severe bug in my 21051 ROM. While downloading, the battery does not charge ... not even when connected straight to charger via AC adapter.

in no rom either 6.1 or 6.5 have I ever gotten a data connection while on activesync, however it should be charging if you have it connected to an AV charger. I have had no such problems with DaReeseBoys 23001 rom, its the most stable 6.5 rom ive ever used.

Re: 6.5 vs 6.1

yall keep talking about different builds, regardless of the builds cheffs still have to make em.... Maybe the real problem is the way their made. Their could be the same build in 2 different roms but 1 is gonna run better than the other because 1 cheff is better....

IMO 6.5 has a small advantage over 6.1, so id take a 6.5 custom over 6.1, but lets face it, their is no custom rom out now that needs no tweaking or hotfixs etc. I know i am sick of thinkinng my custom rom is good, then all the sudden i find another flaw that erks me off... I am on the stock 1.03 version and its rocking just fine, all my programs work perfectly and no wierd shnit is happening.... the notifications open up like they should and woth battery tweaks its lasting a while.... 6.5 battery wasnt horrible but stock just wins imo.

Re: 6.5 vs 6.1

I use TF3D...

So visually OS wise.... all I really see is the Startmenu.... and I HATE the wm6.5 HEX thing...

TF3D runs WAY smoother on 6.1

Re: 6.5 vs 6.1

the best thing about 6.5 is amazingly responsive finger flicking on all menus. That alone is why i love it. I can flick through file explorer, text messages, emails etc with amazing speed. Plus it seems to me battery life is improved. and I love the built in slide to unlock that I ditched s2u2.

Here is a video I madeof my touch pro 2 running 6.5:
