If you transfer the GIF file directly to your phone"lets say not using the alltel net"maybe bluetooth, can you open it on your device or never tried before?

The reason it gets "reformatted" or what not, is because it's basically sent as an emoticon embedded in a normal text message. It's like comparing an HTML email to a plaintext email. She could probably send you the picture in a picture message, but when inserting a smiley in her regular SMS it just removes the image.

neither. just two different OSs. you can buy a smilies program for your phone that might help you see them when you get the messages. I've never used a program for smilies 'cause I don't think it's important.

just a lil added info for anyone interested....i now have the touch pro and i have the same issue as him but when i had the xv6800 and used vito technologies sms chat program the animated ones worked just fine....im assuming that "vito" added something to thier program to allow it to work....i wonder if theres a way to make a cab of that and use it in the stock (threaded) application....hrmmmmm????
