Why is my Wifi not so great?

I have the sprint version of the diamond and I think the Wifi is not that great. I have done some simple speed tests and the numbers are one thing but the actual loading of web pages on opera is totally different. I hate to compare the two but I also own a Ipod touch. I have buddies that own iphones and when they come over my house and use the wifi, they get great speeds. Please dont tell me it is the a defcetive hardware because not only is this my second diamond but my brother owns the touch pro and his wifi is the same as mine. After testing serveral web pages and speed tests, the ipod blows away the diamond by sometimes 20 to 30 seconds. I dont know if it opera or not but is there anything that can be done to tweak the wifi? I am running juicy 4.2 but don't understand why built in wifi can be so bad. I feel sometimes the sprint network feels just as fast a my wifi.

I feel the same way. I tried it the first time I got the diamond and found that the EVDO was much faster. Sad....

Re: Why is my Wifi not so great?

Odd...I guess I never really noticed. I mainly use wifi on my device for two purposes - skype and wmwifirouter - and havent noticed anything excruciatingly slow (or at least thats what I gather from your post) - call quality was phenomenal with a wired headset. Thanks for the heads up though - I'll test out websurfing on wifi to see if I get as pissed as you.

Edit - have you tried disabling your cellular data connection while wifi is enabled? Worth a shot for troubleshooting purposes I suppose.

I'm on telus and feel the same way. I can't help but think it has to do with Opera

Not that it is "excrutiatingly" slow but definately slower than EVDO. You would expect much faster speeds than EVDO, especially if you are standing right next to the wireless router.

Re: Why is my Wifi not so great?

I think it's Opera too...that browser just tends to be slower because they render through a server on their end don't they? Unless I am mixing up Opera with another browser...I've used wifi at home and it seems OK to me...not blazing, but reasonable...I generally just use EVDO Rev A where available...

Re: Why is my Wifi not so great?

I do find that the wifi is not the greatest in the Diamond. I have an Asus A696 PDA and the wifi performance is better. I think it's because the Diamond's antenna is not as good. Signal strength is poor, even though I'm only about 10-20 feet from my router. I guess it's the drawback of having so much stuff crammed into such a tiny phone!

Re: Why is my Wifi not so great?

My wifi is great in my Diamond. When doing a transfer over my home network shares, i get about 500 KBps. My Mogul topped out at about 125 KBps.
