I can vouch that this works PERFECTLY for Diamonds... did mine 2 hours ago and I'm in absolute awe of how sexy my phone is now... all for $1.62!!!!!

All it takes is a decent sized pot (stainless steel prefered), filled with water
Set the stove to medium heat, NOT BOILING.
Pour in dye and allow it to dissolve
wash the cover with soap and water to remove any dirt or oil ect
drop in the cover and stylus(s)
set timer for 15 minutes and stir gently
after 15 mins pull it out gently with tongs or a plastic utensil (metal will prolly scratch cover)
after it cools and dries buff it with a dark piece of denim

you now have a perfectly black cover and stylus(s)!

enjoy.

all credit goes to XWEAPONX for trying this first on his back cover...

(dying the stylus was my idea...albeit too late for myself lol)

Pictures of how it turned out here:

So, now that we can dye our battery cover & stylus, what do we do about the leftover red around the usb connector?

if anyone can get an extra Diamond cover from the store or youre an employee ill gladly pay for it and shipping as I work most of the hours Sprint stores are open. Gladly will pay like $15 to get it to me, all profit since its free apparently if you ask from the "extra" box. Just shoot me a PM if you have extra or can get one easily.

Would like to have an extra encase i ever need to bring it in to be looked at.

x2. Had the same question. Anyone dye that area?

And how does the stylus dye hold up? It feels like a different material than the battery cover.

Re: DIY Black battery cover

stylus worked just took a lot longer. the cover took about 15 min or so and the stylus i left in for about 45. the material is different and will eventually take the color. Just make sure to let the stylus dry out because liquid gets into the metal tube and will drip out and be wet longer.

WOWOWOWWOWO!!!!

I am a happy geek.

Followed the instructions on the first page of this post to a T.

Excellent results.

A few caveats:
  • Make sure the stove is on between 4-5.
  • Make sure the water comes to a uniform heat (very slight/light steam)
  • USE GLOVES!!!
  • Take out the back first
  • Leave the stylus in there for a min of 5 min longer (it needed it)
  • Rinse and dry as stated
  • YOU MUST BUFF (See pic)
  • When buffing I used paper towels
  • Some color WILL COME OFF when you buff so use paper towels or a cloth you don't care about (See pic)
  • Use your fingers to buff suborn areas
  • Make SURE you buff the inside of the clear plastic where the camera hole is!
  • Buff the strip of clear plastic down the middle
  • Remove stylus WITH A METAL SPOON!!! It'll stick to it because it's magnetized. (I lost it in the murky water!)
I'm so happy right now!!!

I used a sharpie to do the USB area. We'll see if it holds.
