MSL not unlocking Sprint Diamond after flash... no internet
 

i flashed mighty rom 2.1 which has the generic rom settings, i downloaded DCD sprint carrier settings cab, and after doing all of that my internet got flaky with error 67 and 1012...

i flashed back to the stock rom of sprint, which reset my PRL as well as my radio back to 1.00 from 1.03 vrz, so i figured that it would be an all over fixing process so i can start fresh...

i checked device info and my username is no longer what it should be so i figured go into my settings using the ## code and change it...

i read through possible internet fixes but for that to work i would need my MSL to unlock the phone, i used the Get SPC for my msl, tired that number did not work, i tired the reg edit to create the log to get the MSL and its the same number, still did not work... i called into sprint and the MSl they gave me was still the same and it was not unlocking the phone...

i have not been able to find anything anywhere even by doing a search, but nothing is telling me what would change my device so that it no longer took my MSL code...

any help would be great needed, even if its to say im a noob and what i should have searched for... saying something is better then nothing

(sprint said to take the phone in and get it exchanged, but i refuse to give up with out trying everything first thats to much of a cop out)

did you do ##778# then msl or ##msl# try it whichever way you didnt do it before. also for craps and giggles try ##778# then 000000 for the msl.

the sprint rep ran me through ##778# as well as ##000000# and ##msl# and 3 other type of codes and still to no avil

i wish i could remember exactly what they told me to do over the phone, but, when i bought my diamond at best buy the internet wasnt working. he instructed me to press ## something, then enter what i think was my MSL, then go to a certain screen and choose reset the settings to default. then my internet was working. reason im saying all this is that i was surprised it wasn't the usual ##778# that I was expecting to dial. wish i could be more of help. sorry.

I fixed it! you need to get access to your MSL or take it in to the Sprint store and get them to do this. But you will go in and ##3282# or ##DATA# and then you will need to change the "Active Profile" from "0" to "1". Give that a shot and let me know what ya find out. If the people at the store tell you different you let me know and hold onto that phone cause this should fix it.

this is what i have tired on my phone after clicking on edit

##3282# msl code fails, 000000 code fails 111111 code fails
##778# msl code fails, 000000 code fails 111111 code fails
##000000# no responce...
##846524# or ##msl# no responce
##111111# no responce

so to go to anything to make an edit i need to figure out why my phone is no longer taking its MSL code...

as stated in the 1st post getspc, the reg edit log hack, as well as CS have all produced the same number of 846524 and entering that number into the unlock screen does nothing but fail out...

so to fix my internet i know what the sticky thread says, but I NEED TO ACCESS the correct areas to edit them...

so does anyone know why the MSL code is not working and how i can get it to work again... is a proably a better way to ask the issue

There is a registry hack that works to get your MSL... let me look for it...

Found it:

* Change the following registry entries in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ATDbgLog
Enable: 1
LogMode: 1
* Wait a reasonable amount of time and soft-reset (I have noticed that it seems to take longer for this value to take affect, so if you reboot and the registry values are not changed, then you need to do it again and wait longer)
* Check to see that the file \Temp\ATDbg0.txt has been created.
* Return the values back to what they were (most likely 0) waiting the same amount of time as above.
* Look in the ATDbg0.txt file and you should see a log of commands sent to the CDMA radio and there should be something like this somewhere in the file:

yea tried it... it gave me the same msl as getspc and the same msl as the sprint rep gave me...

is there a way to get a new MSL, make the old one work, or bypass it so i can make edits?

Wow, then I have no clue. I have never seen or heard of a phone that changed its own MSL. If it were me, I would make sure it ahs a stock rom on it and then call customer service again. When they realize that there is a problem, I would ask them to ship you a new replacement.

yeah they are shipping a new one, but i don't wanna make the same mistakes i did with the new one so im trying to figure out, was it the dcd sprint carrier cab or mighty rom 2.1...

the phone worked fine with juicy 2.6, fine with the 1.03 radio rom, flashed mighty 2, same radio and then flashed mighty 2.1 and added DCD with the same radio...

had an issue, flashed stock rom back, issue still there

so what caused it... mighty 2.1, dcd, or a combo of both with the 1.03 radio

This exact same thing happened to me yesterday. I flashed Mighty's ROM and did a few other cab installs and my phone would not get data. I was able to make a call or two and then that failed. My user name had been changed as well as the number that is used to dial out...Sprint could NOT unlock it no matter what. I took it in and the rep there was very confused. Thankfully I had flashed back to Stock ROM and relocked the phone. I had spent an hour on the phone with sprint and nothing. I then took it in, told the rep there that I had phone service before the person on the phone started messing with it...he ended up giving me a new phone and I was done. Is it Mighty's ROM? I have used three of Juicy's with no problem...

got the same problem, Solved it last night after sprint tech gave up. somehow my MSL changed to 691212. found that out by using the reg hack above. Once you find your new MSL. use it to reset your device ##RTN#. That should do it. After reset you reset your phone the orginal MSL from sprint should works. PLEASE DO NOT UPDATE PRL IN MSR 2.1.1!!!!!!

It might just be dcd carriers cab. I restart MSR 2.1.1 without dcd carriers cab and there's no PRL to update.

I used a program called QPST to check/change my MSL. I had a Sprint phone that I flashed to work on the Alltel Network. I had to change the MSL to all zeros and it worked fine. There's a Tutorial somewhere on PPC on how to do this. I'm too lazy or I would have found it for you.

It really wasn't hard. You hook up your phone to your PC, let active sync load. Launch QPST Configuration, and add a port. Then you open Service Programing and select the device all the way at the bottom (it doesn't recognize the diamond by default). Then you connect. Click get information from phone and it will fill in all the boxes. You will see your MSL on the first page, you can change it there if you'd like. Just change the number then click write to phone.

From what people said if you don't know what you're doing you could seriously bunk your phone up, so proceed with caution.

lol whats really funny is that i posted this question in the mighty rom section and he acted like a douche and said that his rom couldn't have caused a problem but here are like 5 other people with the same problem as me way to go mighty mike

It's quite possibly dcd's carrier cab, and not the rom itself that is causing the issue.

Agreed. As a matter of fact, I know of someone with a Touch that installed a custom rom (non-carrier specific) and then installed the DCD Carrier cab for Sprint and he was getting no data connection.

Either way, I would recommend not calling the cooks names. Without them, most of us would be stuck on stock roms with all kinds of problems.

had the same problem ended up reflashing the stock and going into the store where the technician said the esn from the phone doesnt match the sticker and he was wondering if this phone was ever active ,ended up giving me a new one ,ummm interesting i might just go back to juicy 2.5 it was a nightmare for me they actually canceled my line in an attempt to re setup the phone and had to wait till morning for the credit department to approve reopening the account"the stupid technical support"

i take back my statement about mike and say sorry... im just bitter that i came to him 2 days ago about this and he treated me like a noob and that i didn't know what i was talking about and like he had the jesus rom of all roms or something... i have made roms before in the past and if someone came to me with an issue i didn't downgrade them or say no its not my rom its user related, i looked into it and helped them and was humble...

mah man!!!!! I got a new replacement diamond today, didnt even give it an hour before flashing lol, but then my internet just wouldn't work (never did work)... couldnt find the msl for the life of me and i hate calling sprint...

THIS WORKED LIKE A CHARM! took a sec to find the RMSL in the log but we are good to fly now!

Anytime bro, glad to hear it helped.

I worked on it for about an hour and a half on Friday and then got suckered into some small tasks around the house with my wife on Saturday, which resulted in my back problems kicking up again.

But I'll be back on it this weekend...

ooo bad news... even tho i got in and everything, my phone still won't connect to the internet...

its probably because as soon as i got this new phone, i didn't give it enough time to start setting up Power Vision and i flashed a juicy rom... i've tried everything even calling tech support but still nothing... anyone know a fix?

I'll be without data connection til my replacement comes in... btw, they don't have refurbs so i'm getting a new one... sweet

First and foremost, make sure that the battery is pulled from your old one. Then I would try to flash back to stock Sprint and work on the normal steps. I flashed one to a custom rom before and it failed, then flashed back to Sprint and, followign the normal directions, it worked. Then another flash back to the custom rom kept the data working, for whatever reason.

Sorry bro... I am very tired and feeling slightly mushy in the brain at the moment, so I am out of ideas. PM me in the morning (to remind me) and let me look at the issue again with some sleep behind me...

Hell, I have another new Diamond in the box in my office and can try breaking it in the morning just to see if we can figure out how to fix it. Success is having a similar issue with no data on his right now, too.

And I am all about trying to break stuff that isn't already broken :)

Can one of you tell me why this isn't working for me?

I was one of those several weeks ago that flashed Mighty's ROM and then did the DCD Sprint cab and bricked my phone. I have since gotten a new one and flashed several ROM's and everything works great, but I want to get my MSL without having to sit on hold with Sprint. I have tried this method several times and just am not getting the Temp file. am I looking in the wrong place? ](*,)

Sh*t i thought i was F'd but i just used Baffles pog and it grabbed the proper code for me, I too flash a generic, then DCD on my touch pro, My dumb asss did the PRI update from the connections tab and after that I couldn't get online, Tried editing my active profile but my MSL wouldn't rtake that i just used 3 hours prior. I too called sprint they couldn't figure it out tried the regedits and everything was givening me My old code but the Baffles app grabbed the write one now I am cooking thanks a MILLION!!!!

I know this is an old thread.. but thanks that helped me out alot!! :) was messing with my boss's unit and it wouldnt accept its msl anymore but doing the above allowed me to fix it!! :headbang:

Okay, spoke to soon... Running Mighty 4.16 on a Touch Pro, and I was too eager to flash and didn't get my MSL ahead of time... D'oh.

Anyway, I've tried all of the methods that seemed reasonable:
0. Tried 000000
1. Attempted to use BAF MSL Grabber. It couldn't get the MSL.
2. Installed GetSPC. It gave me numbers that didn't work.
3. Tried the registry edit, but never got the temp file that was mentioned.

Help?

A-ha!!

It shows up on the Touch Pro in its own folder, titled 'Atlog'.

For whatever reason, I couldn't get it to open on the device itself, but all's well now!

Maybe my stupidity will help someone.
