Agreed - I'll be monitoring the thread for this or any other ideas. =)

Thanks,

Re: Does your data EVER turn off by itself/timeout (as it should)?

The device has been in standby for the last 6 hours or so, since my last post. Upon turning it on, the arrows are gone. So the data connection did go off, but no telling how long it took. I will keep a closer eye on this.

Just a heads up. I did a hard reset yesterday because when the data connection was on (active or dormant), I could not answer a call without an extended delay. The same problem was reported by Touch users a couple of months ago and they attributed the cause to Advanced Config. Some in this thread blamed Diamond Tweak. Posters in both threads suggested that only a hard reset solved their problem. I changed all of the registry settings back to default without success. A hard reset was the solution.

So I will not be re-installing Advanced Config or Diamond Tweaks for a while and I will be monitoring the data connection. I hate to blame useful software like Advanced Config or Diamond Tweaks, but one or more of their registry settings could have caused my call-answering problem. Time will tell.

I just posted this in another thread on the same topic, but here goes again. You can used Advanced config. there is a setting that will shut it off at a pre-determined time. mine for example is set for one minute after going dormant. works perfect on my mogul, don't see why it won't work on a diamond. Search for it if you can't find it I'll post it.

Cappy thanks. I wonder if it is the very data connection timeout setting that is causing the problem. Is the problem consistent or intermittent? I wish these tweak tools tell us exactly where in the registry the changes are made. I have both apps installed since previous versions and have not had any problems.

Will you please point me to the thread that discusses the extended delay in call answer? Thanks again.

@Lylej2k & Success100, I've had Advanced Config and Diamond Tweak. The settings work if the phone is truly not connecting between the last access and through the timeout duration. For example, if I set the timeout to 3 minutes--sometimes, within those three minutes, the arrows will go solid even though I have no known app or process running that would cause that, which in turn will cause another delay of 3 minutes. I was curious what was causing that...

Snovvman, here are the links.

Do you have GPS Today installed, by any chance? That app appears to connect periodically unless the option "Disable Data at All Times" is checked.

Regarding the tweak tools, I agree. My problem was corrected by a hard reset. In the end, anything could have caused the problem. I am not ready to blame it on Advanced Config or Diamond Tweak. Apparently, not everyone that has these tools installed has had a problem answering calls when the data connection is on.

I do not have GPS Today installed. I still can't figure out what is causing the occasional data "blip" that intermittently delays the data connection closing.

I read the links, and it doesn't seem like there is enough evidence that the tools or tweaks are the cause. I would imagine the 1-minute data timeout would help since it will make sure that the data connection is closed. At the same time, it would be a pain to wait for re-connect each time you want to get to the internet.

I also noticed that, on initial start (off of a fresh boot) of PIE, upon loading a new web page, PIE will hang for many seconds before screen control returns or screen is refreshed.

As I mentioned before, my data connection has not been turning off. 2 hours ago, I marked the setting in GPS Today that I mentioned. Just turned the device back on from standby and the connection has turned off. The time appears to be at least one hour of no activity before it shuts off. In my case it was GPS Today. Also, an incoming call will turn off the data connection. Something is running on your device that needs the data connection from time to time. You have looked at RSS Hub?

On a related note, I have been monitoring battery drain when the data connection is on. So far, no measurable effect as long as the connection is dormant.

I think it might be related to Handmark Express trying to register... My phone is doing the same thing...
