Re: What's the Best Backup Program Before ROM Upgrade?

I've used Sprite, HTC Data Backup, and PIM Backup.

I like PIM Backup (free) for mail, contacts, call logs, and some files like favorites and my custom start menu. It works well and doesn't require reboots. However, it does not recreate mail accounts, it will only restore the messages if the account already exists. This can be a pain if you don't recall the exact names you used to define each account.

Sprite ($$) works well for backing up and restoring the complete system in case of a hard reset. I'm less thrilled with it when oing a ROM upgrade. In many cases it could not restore my mail database.

HTC Backup (free) has worked for me where others have not. I've gotten it to restore my mail database from WM5 to WM6 upgrade on an Apache. I needed this because I didn't want to recreate one mail account that used a custom MAPI setup that wouldhave been difficult to recreate from scratch. However, this program isn't very flexible. It allows full backup or PIM. You can't choose individual files/folders to back up

I too have too am having MAJOR issues with Resco Backup. It kept freezing on me when it goes through this "Closing Applications" part. WHat a shame. I fought with it for several hours and was able to restore everything but my sms messages before it timed out. I neeed to get SPB backup. I tried the trial on my Titan a while ago and I loved it.

I think im one of the only holdouts for copying the pim.vol file and when you restore, rename the new pim.vol file, copy the old one and softreset. though magically I found out my wifes vista laptop syncs perfectly with my diamond and my old titan so I backed up that way as well.
