ok so for the life of me this won't work... nice thing is it works when it connected via usb cable and the sound DOES come through the phone and not comp if i want it too! I want to use this so i can stream pandora.com when i'm in my car (battery is not an issue since i have it charging in the car)

i'm about ready to just format my laptop and redo it all to get this right! Haven't had this comp long and don't have much at all on it, so i might as well just save it to a disk reformat.

I'm not that great with computers so maybe i messed somethin up since i've had it? could that be it?

Wait... What has my name on it?

OOOOHHHHH

Didn't even realize. I'll post a new Sprint Stock ROM maybe tomorrow with my name removed. Can't have that in there if you take it back to the shop!

Re: Remote Desktop on Diamond

Hey guys,

Don't forget that in order to be able to access Remote Desktop, your Windows OS must support it as well.

Windows Vista Ultimate & Business, XP Professional, Server 2000-2003-2008 so far are the only OS's that allow users to access them remotely.

Windows Vista Basic & Home Premium, XP Home Edition, ME, NT, and older...Do NOT allow you to control your computer remotely. Also MAC OSX 10.3+ Does NOT work with this as well.

That could be your problem right there...

I have two laptops with XP Pro and Vista Ultimate, I will try to give you guys a "How-To" guide to help you set up your computers and your phone for remote access.

So here it goes...

First and foremost, make sure your computer has remote desktop turned ON (Right Click My Computer - select Properties on XP Pro or Remote Settings on Vista Ultimate)
Click on the "Remote" tab and make sure "Allow Remote Connections..." are BOTH selected.... see pic below

RD1.jpg

Then you have to make sure that your Windows Firewall will allow Remote Desktop to access your computer. So go to Start - Control Panel - Security - Windows Firewall. Get into firewall settings and select the "Exceptions" tab. Make sure you have "Remote Administration, Remote Assistance, AND Remote Desktop" ALL Checked...see pic below

RD2.jpg

Don't forget that you will need either your Static IP or your DHCP IP of the computer you're trying access. Most likely you have a Dynamic IP automatically assigned by your router.

To find your IP address, open up Command Prompt (Start - Accessories - Command Prompt) or (Start - Run - Type cmd)

You'll get the DOS black screen up, type ipconfig and you'll get your computer's IPv4 IP Address. (Don't worry about IPv6, Subnet Mask, or Gateway Mask they are not needed) see pic below...

RD3.jpg

If your IP is Dynamic then it will start out with 192.168.X.X

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to mention one of the most important steps. If you DO NOT have a Static IP, meaning if your IP Address is 192.168.X.X then you will have to connect your Diamond to the SAME WiFi router of the computer you are trying to remotely control. In other words if you're at home, you'll will need to connect to your home's WiFi to control your home computer. You CAN NOT use EVDO UNLESS YOU HAVE A STATIC IP (Which is your own IP address that your ISP provides, usually at an extra cost).

Now on your phone, connect to the SAME WiFi router of the computer you want to control (Through WiFi NOT EVDO!!!).

Open up the remote desktop application on your phone.

Enter in the "Computer" Field the IP address of the computer you want to access. In my case I will enter 192.168.1.102

Then for "User Name" enter the name of your computer log on name. If you have XP Pro, then its the same name ontop of the Start Menu bar, for Vista its the name in the top right-hand corner in the start meu bar.

Then for "Password" enter the password you use to log into Windows. If you do not have one set up, you'll need to set one up in Control Panel - User Accounts - Add Password.

For "Domain" leave blank, this is only for people connected to a Domain network, usally a company or an organization. Most likely if this is your personal computer at home, then you are connected as a workgroup.

Hit "Connect"...if all done correctly it sould work!

thanks bud, i really appreciate the steps with the thumbnails! But i still can't get it to work!! You know what, because of your post, i realized that i do not have the "remote andministration" item to check... i only have the other 2...

i AM running XP Pro, so i SHOULD be good... anyway to get the remote admistration in there?

Re: Remote Desktop on Diamond

you dont need remote admin (or assistance, actually), just the remote desktop.

Double check that the proper user name is allowed as well.

Can you connect if you are connected to your home wifi connection by entering the INTERNAL IP (192.168.0.xxx) as the name?

Re: Remote Desktop on Diamond

Hold the phone (pardon the pun)!

Are you trying to use remote desktop from your Diamond, via your wireless router on your LAN, to connect to your desktop PC via the public IP address of your Internet connection? Because that will most likely fail as most routers look at that as a waste of prcessor and will deny the traffic. I know that Cisco and Linksys will fail this way, and I am pretty sure D-Link is the same.

You are trying to use remote desktop from your Diamond, via your wireless router on your LAN, to connect to your desktop PC via the private IP address of your desktop PC, right?

Because you need to get that working first.. then you can worry about getting into your desktop PC from outside your LAN, via the Internet.
