Re: HTC Diamond

Yeah I agree, WiFI is a hardware based support and cannot just be taken out for one carrier and not another. WiFi will come in both the Diamond and Touch Pro as stated above. My Diamond is already on the way and as soon as it gets here I will post shots.

Unfortunately they can, and do, significantly alter hardware between unlocked GSM versions and the CDMA carrier-approved stuff we get in the US. Just look at the GSM Touch vs the CDMA version:

I don't think it's safe to make a judgement on WiFi one way or the other until CDMA devices actually start shipping. On a side note, have they started selling quad-band phones, or are you just going to live without AT&T's 3G?

I admit that is scary. I would think the engineering/design cost would be too much to to do that with. However, I will certainly do w/o 3G, not only due to the cost and WiFi spots being everywhere but also because I dont even have 3G available where I live.

Those phones are totally different phones. Us carriers did not change anything from the GSM. it's HTC made the updates. The carrier just disable or enable what the device already has.

Re: HTC Diamond

Of course the carriers themselves didn't change the phone hardware, but they have significant influence with HTC in developing a device that meets their requirements. Cost, battery life, device performance, marketing decisions, etc all play a role in the development of a device that Sprint/Verizon/etc will eventually sell. As you can see with the example above, HTC significantly altered the CDMA version before it was accepted for sale by US CDMA carriers - who will be subsizing the cost of the vast majority of units sold in order to reach a certain, acceptable price point. The point is that until we see official, shipping CDMA versions it is really to soon to predict exactly what hardware will be included and/or activated.

Yeah no one can really tell what it has until it's here. But in the other thread which has the leaked photos of sprints HTC diamond, They already removed the front facing camera. and the back cover was replaced. There no more diamondish back cover.
