That might just be the CDMA version of the touch dual.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

I wondered if anyone has conformation of the model number 6950? What device is it? I was hoping after a week there would be something more on this. I too, can't wait for the diamond to arrive, although, I do think Sept. 2nd is a bit early for Sprint. They don't work that fast. They are still pumping the Instinct, which I have NO interest in!

I hope against hope the 6950 is not the Touch Dual, but deep inside, I know it probably is!

sam75 07-16-2008 04:18 AM

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

i think the 6950 is the touch dual since the touch is 6900 & the touch dual is a variation of that fone hence the 6950. just gotta wait & see

It is the touch dual...the website just posted another article correcting the mistake.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

Still skeptical about it being the Touch Dual. There have been NO LEAKS about it at all, or internal memos, pictures, or references to a Touch Dual. And why would they launch this product within a month of launching the next generation iterations?

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

Has a CDMA Touch Dual even gotten FCC approval yet? The CDMA Diamond's already approved by the FCC.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

I just talked to a Sprint rep about the Sept. 2nd release of a device 6950. He stated that he wasn't sure if it was the diamond, all he had was, "it's the Touch 2". He told me that in a couple of weeks they will have more information on that model.

Just thought I would pass this little bit of info. Sounds like the Dual to me, but I hope I'm wrong! Come on Sprint, give us Christmas a few months early! I want to put my girlfriends iPhone to shame!

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

So there's an included Game that has Haptic feedback, but no on screen keyboard that has it? C'mon, HTC!

I guess we'll need a third party hack/app to address that one.

I played with the Samsung Instinct, and the Haptic feedback keyboard is really the only killer app that appealed to me.

I think it's been stated in several other threads that is the Touch Dual not the Diamond.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

Please don’t shoot the messenger for this but the tentative release date of September 2nd is no longer correct. It was scheduled to be the 2nd of September but it got moved back to October 19th. The good news though, the Touch Pro got moved up from it’s November slot and is now going to be released the same day. This isn’t Sprint’s call, in fact it was HTC’s doing. Because of limited resources state bound they wanted the release date to be the same. Sprint actually has four phones now releasing on this date so I really don’t think they would have tried to create themselves this type of headache. This news that I am telling you is 100% accurate for the time being, but as we all know, Sprint can and will typically change their minds hundreds of times before they actually go through with something. This news is coming straight from my District Manager so I assure everyone this is the most current and accurate release date for both devices.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

What are the other 2 devices?

e.lamberson 07-30-2008 04:19 PM

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

One I believe was the Motorola Vegas which has basically the same user interface as the V3M and probably the same horrible service and quality. The other phone is some EVDO version of the Rumor. Haven't seen the actual device but it seems as if it may be something comparable to the Verizon Envy.

Any idea on the price of the pro or diamond? Also, can someone else confirm that date. As of last week, Retention told me that it would be relesaed on sept 2nd. Hope it comes out sooner than later. BTW, would it make much sense to release four phones much less than two HTC smartphones? Wow, no wonder other countries get the best phones first!:protest:

Touch dual likely had it's approval a while a go an no one cared, bell's launching it coming soon.

Has everyone here not yet learned that you can't take the word of Sprint's customer care for anything. For christ sake if you have a problem they generally tell you to go to the store for you're issue and then the store rep tells you something completely different. The turn over rate is so high in the call centers that the next person you get in contact with may be someone who has been there two weeks fresh out of training. Come on, do we really believe customer care. I would agree that retentions are a little more reliable that general customer care but I can tell you out of personal experience that outside of their department and what they can offer, they aren't much better. They just seem to be able to find the generic information better. Just the other day someone out of retentions had no clue what the "Airave" was and then when we mentioned my Mogul he told me that my Mogul didn't have the capabilities of Sprint TV or Navigation. The answer I got about the release date of both devices was from my district manager who used to be my store manager and he usually keeps us informed on all the hot ticket items. Unless Sprint or HTC changes the release date I would almost guarantee you could take the date of October 19th to the bank. The call center people less telesales, never know the true release date of items or typically even the functionality of a device. As for the release of four devices on the same day, well I too think this is only causing trouble for Sprint. But like I mentioned in my previous post, the original date of release was 2nd September and November for the Touch Pro. Sprint already had the other two devices on the books for the 19th of October when HTC opted to change the release date. Either way, no matter our opinions on how stupid it may be, Sprint has it on the books for 19 October.

dude i work for sprint. the 6950 is the TOUCH DUAL. not the diamond. The FCC JUST approved the GSM 850/1900 MHz version for US GSM carriers. The CDMA version is still awaiting FCC approval

Before you are too quick, my DM has played with the Diamond. One of the lead directors of marketing has the diamond on his account. As I have implied, I too work for Sprint and am fortunate enough to have someone higher up who used to be our store manager who informs me of the facts when they arrive. Before you are too quick to correct someone check all your resources. I looked up in our system the sku's of the devices and we have both a 6850 and 6950. It doesn't show which is which but I can say that the pricing of the 6950 is out, well at least the retail price, and it's the same as the Mogul. With the Mogul being the 6800 and the Touch being the 6900 I'm assuming that the Diamond and the Touch Pro are the 6950 and 6850. In my discussions with my DM we have never discussed the model number, just the name and it's been clearly stated as the Diamond and Touch Pro which will both being released as of 19 October. However I did find this link that was posted July 9th and it shows the September 2nd release date which again has been changed to October 19th and it also shows that the device being released is the Diamond MP 6950.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

Thank God for Google! Saved me the trouble of having to search through the entire forum. I got this thread directly!

I read through the thread and from what I gathered as far as info is concerned, this is what everybody has posted so far:

- Release moved from September 2 to October 19.
- Release for Touch Pro (Raphael) moved from November to October 19

Anyhow, I'm not expert and don't have any inside contacts, but I do work for a major corporation that allows me to get business phones before they're officially released to the public (I ordered my Mogul 1 month prior to the public release), so I have an email into our representative to see if he has any information for me, since I'm definitely interested in getting the Touch Pro.

If I receive a response about it, I'll post whatever I can share.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

I don't buy the same-day launch story. Not for one minute. Sprint would lose a lot of revenue this way...

Think about it like this - they release the Diamond. Everyone buys the Diamond and is like "haha suckers" to everyone who doesn't have Sprint. They love their Diamond... then two months later, out comes the Touch Pro and they pay full price for that device. Sprint ends up selling two phones in the end, HTC receives payment for two phones in the end... I'll eat my socks if they launch both phones the same day. That would be outright marketing stupidity. Not that Sprint isn't already known for marketing stupidity but this would take the cake.

Lets remember that these are the flashiest PocketPCs ever to be launched in America. Everyone and their mom is going to want one. PocketPCs don't look like bricks as much anymore and that's going to be a huge selling point. Dare I say, both of these devices are downright sexy!

Also, this same argument can be applied to why the Touch Pro is to be released after the Diamond - The Touch Pro is a significant upgrade from the Diamond spec-wise and releasing the Touch Pro first might just cannibalize Diamond sales.

Re: Sprint Diamond tentative release date

its gonna be the diamond on sept. 2

today, store managers got an email telling them that they had to sign up one person from their store to be their diamond specialist for the sept. 2 launch. Which is awesome because when sprint has a specialist, that person gets a free phone of what they are the specialist for. I've told my manager everyday since the before the instinct launched, that he had to make me the diamond or touch pro specialist when they came out, so.....my manager chose me. HAHAHAH. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Everybody else in my store is scared of Window Mobile, so I win. I just got the 800w for the same reason. (I even get to keep it too!)

Interesting. So does that mean that the Touch Pro is more likely for an October 19 launch?

That it's not but personally I hate the Sprint branding all over the GUI.

It won't be long until someone has figured out a way to get the GSM-Style TouchFlo 3D on there...

GUI = Graphical User Interface

And yes, the Diamond will have Touch Flo 3D... but Sprint has modified it heavily.
