Forgive me, I'm confused

Maybe I'm screwed, maybe I'm not.

I just bought a verizon diamond on ebay, so if it is my intention to use this on Metropcs, I should be ok? The only concern/drawback would be to Unlock the phone so that I can upload a custom rom? Right? I figured Verizon would be ok because that phone allows me to use my SD cards. But from what I'm reading, I can forget a custom rom until someone mercifully provides and unlock for this particular phone, but I can still use it on Metropcs.

I had an Alltel HTC 6900 and was able to use metropcs on it, but tragically a Sprite accident killed my beloved phone.
