You'll find some on here who swear by it. The hardware is definitely better. But WP 7 is an entirely new OS than WM 6.5. It is "locked down" - similar to an Iphone - in that modifications and software additions are extremely difficult if not impossible. Personally, I have decided to wait to see if this situation changes.

The decision really depends on how you will use the phone. Right now, for example, if you want to tether your laptop to your phone's internet connection, on the Arrive, you're SOL. Maybe that will change. But if that is not important to you, the Arrive is worth considering.

some of the things u say are borderline trolling. u will not know how many things u cant/can do till u actually tried a device for longer than 5 mins. the reviews of the arrive on the sprint site are really good, higher than epic but lower than the EVO by .1

Basically, go use the iPhone for a while, and if you like it, you'll love the Arrive. If you don't, then you won't like the Arrive. It's a simple iperating system.

Re: Do you own one?

I finally got the Focus and used it for a day over the weekend. Using the Atrix for work today but when I go home I'm switching back and updating to NoDo

As far as comparing it to the iPhone, I think the OS is very similar and Microsoft certainly took a page out of Apple's playbook- limiting user customization in order to eliminate instability. Which isn't a bad thing. Need more apps though, which will come in time but some apps I expected to be there already.

You have not addressed any specific concerns I have stated about the Arrive. I have freely admitted that the hardware is better - its the software and locked down nature I object to. Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them a troll.

I'd say take the plunge but before you do keep one thing in mind:

THIS IS NOT WINDOWS MOBILE!!

Forget everything you know about previous MS Mobile OS offerings. I figured this out the first hour I had my Arrive. There are minor things that bother me about the OS and the phone itself but overall I'm pretty pleased with my choice.

all the concerns u have will be addressed in mango. it adds alot of great features lack of tethering is no big deal as the phone has a browser in which everything works exactly how it does on a PC so lack of tethering is an invalid claim. NO OS ON THE MARKET CURRENTLY OR PREVIOUSLY HAS ALLOWED TETHERING WITHOUT SOME HACK/EXPLOIT!!

First, I apologize for my intemperate statements. I don't want to start a flame war with you.

Second, I think it would be great if the locked down features of W7 were fixed in a later release. I would then definitely consider the Arrive then. But, respectfully, tethering is a "big deal" to me. All I need is an app to tether the TP2 to my lap top. I also tethered with the TP and the PPC 65-6700s before w/o any "hacking." Blackberries also came with tethering software. I don't find browsing on a 3 inch screen nearly as productive as on a 13 - 15 inch laptop and tethering comes in handy when no wifi is available.

I will be visiting my local sprint store this weekend as my rep. has been calling me to come in and look at the Epic. She, and many other Sprint reps I've talked to have listened to my critical comments about the Arrive and haven't disagreed at all. And, I discussed this online with Rob Pegrano, the former Tech writer for the Washington Post, who panned W7 and indicated it was not a big part of Sprint's future plans.

Look, I'm sure that many users, such as you, do love and will love the Arrive. But it may not be for everybody. I have no axe to grind here. If MS fixes these problems, then I'll be back.
