Cant receive calls with EVDO

Ok, I just signed up for a data plan and I noticed that when I updated my phone with #22899, i cannot receive calls anymore. And when i try make out going calls, it tries to use EVDO but it then switches to 1X and the calls goes through. When people call me, it goes straight to my voicemail. I'm using WM6 by the way. So I then flashed my rom to an older one and I noticed that if EVDO is off, and 1X is on, i can receive calls, make calls, etc. but its only when EVDO is on that I cant get calls? Is there anything I can do to have EVDO because I want the data speed since 1X is awfully slow? Thanks for the help!!
