Hmmm.... you can turn on the "GPS" mode so it's full time, and not just in 911 mode. So that's half your battle.

Here's another off the wall suggestion, you can pick up some pretty slim bluetooth gps modules, just get an extended battery case and stick the gps module in there with a normal battery. Not exactly built in, but hey it works.
fieldtrial?

Google fieldtrial.exe, it's a hidden file on the 6700 that displays signal strength info, gps coordinates, etc. You'll find lots of useful information on it. As for those sprint reps telling folks the 6800 has gps...well...it's half true. I think sprint was going to release their telenav software for it after the next rom update (but I could be wrong, I get my information from the grape vine so...meh.)

You know, even if hooking fieldtrial to a GPS program would be benficial despite the +/- 500 feet issue. I'd still like that for trail riding, hiking, etc.

Oh neither do I. I'm hoping one of the phone-hacking ninjas here reads this and has an Aha! moment.

We never got anywhere with it. All other speculation aside as to what the GPS capabilities are, the thing to remember is that it is a PHONE (radio) function, not a WM function. So, hack away all you want to at WM5 or WM6... it won't do any good. Believe me... if it was that easy, Helmi_c would have found it months ago.
