Non - Microsoft Rom ?!?!?!

Is there a non Microsoft ROM? Like a completely new OS for the phone?
I'm extremely bored with the WM5 or WM6, not to mention not happy with it's limitations. If I were not tethered to Verizon, I'd get that 100% linux phone. I hear that's awesome as it's customizable with hundreds of open-source apps, OS versions, etc....

interesting indeed.

This article is about HTC phones and Linux.

I forget the brand, but I know there are Linux based phones out there that are so extremely customizable as all of the software is open source, lots of new goodies out there, skinnable, etc. Technically it's a small computer in a phone form factor, that runs a phone application... and anything else out there for linux and the linux phone.

Well you can run other OS's through Emulation (dos, Apple IIe, Commadore), but I'm pretty sure the only real ROM swap you can do is for Linux.

This is the page for the Apache version, I've been watching it to see when it's done:
