Switching phone from Alltell to Sprint?

Hey guys,
a buddy of mine recently upgraded his phone, which is alltell, to a better one and gave me his old ppc6700 smart phone. I currently have sprint. I do know sprint supports this phone...I was wondering how I could make this alltell phone work for my sprint network? Someone said I could clone my number onto the new phone or something? Thanks guys
