Stupid n00b question: BootLoader

I am obviously stupid, but I can't find the place on the Wiki or otherwise where it would explain how to use the BootLoader. When I press the three things, I get the screen saying "BootLoader" at the top and "Serial" or "USB" at the bottom (depending on whether the USB cable is connected), and then it just sits there. What is supposed to happen next?
(I have played with the iPAQ H3600 quite a bit, there it was different: you had to have a serial cradle to connect to the PC's serial port, and then use something like kermit or minicom to flash and boot it. Is it a similar deal here? like a usb comport and a bootloader command language?)

After that you run the flash utility for the ROM you want to install. And then you hard-reset.

I don't think there's any kind of commands for the bootloader.

After you put it in bootloader mode then you flash it from the Windows PC using the ROM Upgrade Utility.

Jinx, Luv ;)

Oh, now I see -- the APAC_WM6.exe is an i386 executable... don't know why I assumed it was an ARM executable... Thanks!!

WM6: Error 201

Ok, updating to the latest "Official" ROM was perfectly OK. But when I now try to do the same procedure to go to WM6, it gets stuck at the stage where it says "Checking the information on your device... Please wait..." It sits there for about two minutes, and then ends up with "Error 201: Cannot get data from device".

Anyone experienced anything like this? I mean, this is just bootloader, I don't see what difference it would make whether we are doing one or the other ROM, right?

Depends... what bootloader version is on your device? It appears on the bootloader screen at the very bottom.

Try running the upgrade without putting the phone in bootloader (i.e. let it boot into Windows and then plug it in, let activesync detect it, etc. Then run the upgrade.)

Also make sure you're cabled directly to a USB port on your PC (no cradle or USB hub in the chain), and that you're running windows xp. Reboot both phone and PC... just a few general suggestions.

$10 says he has 2.04, seeing as how hes a bell customer and just flashed the latest official rom... poor guy

usib 09-05-2007 04:17 PM

Yep, it's 2.04.
What's the story with 2.04?

angel12 09-05-2007 07:38 PM

go to the chat room and look for luv, iirc he knows how to get you back to 2.02. 2.04 stops us from flashing roms using the old method, so you have to have <2.04 to get wm6 at the moment.

Is there any advantage to upgrading to bootloader 1.02 or 1.04 over 1.00? I've tried to find something, but details are sketchy and random.

That thread was the 10th one in the search results when I searched this forum for "bootloader"

Thanks. I did not see that thread.
