Modding the Apache to have a flush screen on case..

One thing i dont like about the apache and using finger contact to do what i want, is that the lcd is inset like a milimeter down..
Has anyone modded their apache to where the lcd is raised and flush with the casing?

I believe they don't do that because the surface is so soft and sensitive. What really annoys me is that there's no seal between the casing and the screen so little bits of sand/dirt/lint can get between the casing and the screen which screws up screen alignment.

Yeah, basically it would be too soft to withstand any excess pressure, but if you can get your hands on of those glass type touch screens like the iphone I would think it's possible just because the touch screen is a replaceable part.

The recessed nature of the screen allows for a convenient fitment of a screen protector.

I'm not sure but I think the iphone has a capacitive touch screen, much like a laptop touch pad, whereas the Apache has a resistive touch screen. The capacitive (or inductive) touch screen doesn't really even require direct contact, just something to interfere with the electric field. The resistive touch screen requires force to press the two conductive sheets together to form a kind of potentiometer. The only reason there is a bezel on the resistive screens is to hide the electrodes running up and down the sides of one layer and the top and bottom of the other layer, and those electrodes need to be wired into the touch screen controller. Not terribly pretty. The other type is probably hidden behind the touch screen since to direct contact is needed.
