CAB file to do common hacks and increase system performance.
 

Ok so after running the thread on common hacks, I decided to throw together a couple .cabs to implment only the most common and needed. The .cabs will improve overall system performance and speed up ur apache decently. Below is a list of changes made by the .cabs. Enjoy, I know I will. :D Any comments welcomed and suggestions for more hacks.... Also if you do not like what these .cabs do to your PPC, simply uninstall and everything is back to default. :thumbleft:

UPDATE: 10/3/06 Added version without storage card hack because of reported issues that it causes skipping of WMP when playing media from the storage card.

Install Instructions
Simply download the .zip and extract the .cab, excute it, soft reset (have to do this for the changes to take place), and your done.

1. Increase Ringer Volume.
2. Increase Font Cache Size.
3. Disable the end button from going into flight mode.
4. Increase the FPS on video. (only MP4 format)
5. Increase Storage Card Block Transfer.
6. Both system try icons removed.
7. GPS Settings enabled.
8. Disable Menu Amination (really improves speed)

ApacheHax
Same as above minus the storage card block transfer.

Note: this ones for only MS Voice Command users.

1. Same as above.
2. Increase Voice Command Attenuation.
3. Activate Voice Command via bluetooth headset.

Thanks for your hard work. I know I'll enjoy it as much as you do. Would you think it would be best to install these cab files after a hard reset and removing those unwanted stock programs? I don't know if it will make the ppc perform any better to install after the hard reset. Just a thought.

yea it will increase performace no matter when u install before or after a hard reset. :D I tested it both ways and trust me my ppc is alot perkier. ;)

question: why/what does Increasing the Font Cache Size help?

Don't really know how to explain it so here's a quote from how spbsoftware..

Good question, I already have some hacks installed through the registry tweaks.

Will the program disrupt the registry edit settings since some were set and others were not?


And thanks for putting it together, a wonderful collection.

this .cab is designed to over ride any settings or changes done to the registry...so say u had a hack done before the install, u install it just overwrites with the new settings even tho they may be the same. and after a uninstall it will set back to what it was before the install. hope this answered u ? and no problem. :thumbleft:

Thanks for the tip about the font cache--MemMaid does this easily, too.

Does the hack for Increase Voice Command Attenuation change the volume for all VC audio, or just announcement of incoming calls?

all msvc audio will be increased.

thanks wideawake for the hax!!! but I don't really see an increase in the ringer volumes...is it just me? should I uninstall and then reinstall? thanx for everything!

hey how you doing wideawake?.... i did the hack and ibecause i like the function of the hack apachehax and i followed ur instructions but the only difference i saw was the gps setting so do i have to manually turn up the volume or is it already done because if so i don't really see a difference so i would like to have some info on what to do...thanks

@sprintninja that's all u will see except u should really notice the no menu animation and the ringer should be louder....may not be much but trust me its louder.

@pzztgotbags I tried and tried....but it looks next to impossible at this point, check the what to include into a new rom thread for more info....I updated it not that long ago.

hey mike awsum fand thanks but i guess whatever im doing im ppc stupid so it isnt stopping the animations... or at least the ones i thought and i dont notice ne of the changes really... the animatons that are suppose to stop is like the scroll bad and stuff ryt? ok would appreciate ne help u or the other uys could give my mike and gotta say i love this website... just found it recently and its awsum..

well if the icons on the today screen are gone then u installed it correctly. if not then maybe u forgot to soft reset. and the stop menu animations is the start bar and other menus. instead of looking like they slide down they just appear.

i had to do a hard reset because of that stupid make pocket ie ie6 hack.. just finally got around to doing it

i like this hack but it made my windows media player play very slow and choppy

@tnrmx r u playing from the storage card? try playing from the main memory. I didn't even notice this until u said something. so get back with me and I will remove th storage card hack if that is indeed what it is.

I ran the hack and so far everything seems to work great! I can see the speed diff!

yeah mine too!! i had to uninstall the hack, and then i worked fine again.

i had a prob with this. i installed and my windows mida player when u played a track it was chopy after i removed it it stoped.

alright I will recomplie it tonight and release it minus the storage card hack to solve this problem.

Forgive me for I am not very apt to technical jargon. I installed the cab file and it works fine. But what does the gps hack actually allow you to do? Will I still need a gps receiver to use with streets and trips?

yea u will need a gps receiver.

yeah.. I get that choppy media player issue too for the first few seconds anyways then its goes back to normal.. I also noticed that my battery icon in the sys tray eventually dissapeared I installed tha hack a week ago and the battery icon was there.. today It was gone.. I removed it and reinstalled it.. its still gone..

nall this doesn't mess with the battery icon. by default the ppc6700 removes that battery icon (ur talking about the one at the bottom right) on the xv it stays but that's a reg thing u can change urself or I can come up with a simple .cab for that.

Just to update everyone I updated the first post with 2 new versions removing the storage card hack but leaving up versions that do include it for users that like/want that hack. ;)
