can't install Skype client - not enough memory (to SD card!)

I'm trying to install the Skype client CAB. I selected to install it on the SD card, where there's tons of room, and the progress bar gets almost to the end, but then it says there's not enough memory. My device memory is indeed low (1 Meg left), but I'm trying to install to SD card, so it should work, right? What am I doing wrong?
