XP detecting phone as "Generic Serial"

So, I am trying to get my XV6700 tethered. I have used Activesync successfully, so the phone can at least do that.

After starting the Wmodem app with it set to USB, I connect it to the computer. Instead of the computer seeing the CDMA modem, it reads it as a "generic serial" and therefor I cannot load the modem drivers on it.

I have gone as far as removing activesync from the computer totally, insuring no active data connection on the phone and a hard restart. No luck.

Anyone have any idea why XP cannot see the phone as a modem? Thanks.
