Has anyone tried this with an Alltel 6700?

pringlet 07-03-2007 11:50 AM

The upgrade worked like a champ on my VX6700. Thanks to mbial for the link!

Edit: Thanks for the tip on the soft reset as that was all I did.

Ok answered this on my own. Flashed 1.27 radio to my phone works great but have not noticed any difference. BTW I had my ID at supercid. When I did this. Search supercid on how to do this. I will let ya know any differences

SuperCID still required for Verizon?

I'm still running the Stock 1.10 radio from Verizon. I've DL'd this new 1.41 radio from the FTP but am hesitant to load it (or the 1.27) because there doesn't seem to be consensus on whether it actually helps with signal strength and battery life. I've also had some trouble implementing the SuperCID hack that was recommended for non-Sprint users. [An apparent problem with the Qualcom USB drivers is causing my phone to be unrecognized by QPST. (The PPCGeeks DL link is dead, and two other sources for the drivers have not helped.)]

Since the SuperCID hack appears to be of questionable virtue and is a PIA to implement, I wonder if some or all of you non-Sprint radio upgraders have bypassed it with no trouble. So, do we still need to implement SuperCID before installing this Sprint radio update on a non-Sprint device? Thanks for opinions.

You do not need to use SuperCID, just flash the radio.nbf to your phone with the NoID RUU (it's included in almost all downloads nowadays). It works, I promise

Thanks Phoenx.
Before your reply, I had managed to implement Helmi's partial SuperCID fix, then I flashed the 1.41 Sprint Radio Rom from the FTP server. A couple notes:
1. Got the phone recognized in QPST by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, then reconfiguring QPST to look at Port 5, where the device was showing up. (Also had to DL a free hex editor to make the suggested changes).
2. Running the ROMUpgradeUT.exe from the FTP DOES in fact HARD RESET the device. I finished the utility flash with a soft reset, expecting to see all my stuff plus a new radio, but all my stuff was gone. Not a big deal, just a PIA to re-sync everything and install the few programs not already in the ROM. I didn't look at the files in detail, but nothing in the filenames implies "NoID".
3. No obvious improvement in signal strength or power usage. I had to disable the network time sync. (Not sure if that had been enabled in BigJ's ROM or in this radio rom, but it's a power hog.) I'll post more observations when applicable. tmb

Hmmm, tried 1.41 with my Verizon 6700 - I am not having great results, however, I am also waiting on a new phone from vzw cos of reception issues, which I can't persuade them are their problem, not mine! Oh well, so it's hard to know if I did the right thing, either way, when the "new" one gets here I will have to see it things work any better, in the meantime I have some flashing back to standard to do.....!

EDIT: unable to do the update w/ winVista. Tried different drivers for the device, got stuck in bootloader mode 3 times, gave up. Anyone else have any luck w/ the Sprint ROM/ Radio Upgrade through Vista?
