How do I disable internet connection through activesync?

Hey guys, i'm having a problem that is 1: pissing me off, and 2: I can't figure out. I tried searching the forums to see if anyone else had run into this, but couldn't find any info.

Whenever I hook up my device to my computer at work for charging purposes, my device tries to use the computers internet connection. THis is a problem because i use my device to access certain sites which have been deemed illegal by my network administrator (no, not porn). How can i keep my device from using the company internet connection? I'm already aware of the idea of bringing in a wall adapter, however there are only outlets at my cube (one for tower, one for monitor) and policy forbids us from using surge protectors etc. at our cubicles. Any thoughts?

Pick up a cheap usb cable for the phone and make a small cut in the insulation. Then cut the wires, leaving only the red and black ones intact.

This makes it a charge only cable and you won't have any issues with your IT folks.

You can disable activesync - your device will still charge, but won't be able to sync. Usually I just turn mine off before active sync kicks off, then it can still charge and I'm not nagged by AS (I don't have a partnership with AS because we sync over the air)
