Creating Auto Installation of Programs

Hi All,

I have been lurking around in these forums for quite a while. Tried searching the different forums but couldn't find a suitable answer for this.

My Q: Is there a way in WM5 (xv6700) to create a "config.txt" like file in the storage card so that upon hard reset all I need to do is run that file and all my required programs would auto install? It is ok even if the PPC needs input on that one.

BTW, I don't want to create one single cab file for all the installs. All I need to do is simply click that file and it automatically installs everything for me, just like the extended rom "Config.txt" installer.

PS: This is my first post. Looking forward to participating more in the PPC world.

The only way I know how to do iy is following these instructions unless you cook your own rom in a kitchen. But this is the extrom way.

I am not talking about customizing the extended rom.

On a hard reset, I have to install the apps one by one. Instead of that, I want to be able to go to the storage card and click on one file that will install all the apps that are needed.

Is there a way for that?

PS: Thanks for all the incredible work that all you folks have done.

Have you looked at a program called sprite backup?

take another look at this - I believe it is as close as you are going to get...
Realise that you can put your cabs (any programs) in the ext-rom so they fire off after a hard reset - just like you are asking for...

There is an app over at xda-developers that is similar to the PPC6700 app that allows the user to do standard tweaks. Included in the app is the ability to install cabs as a group. The tweaker app is a little buggy, but it will do the cab stuff fine.

If you are building your own roms, there are other options, but it gets more complicated.

You can also use the config.txt from the ExtRom and add your files from you SD.

CaptainJager:
If I use the backup, and upgrade the rom and restore, it restores back to the old registry settings. But thanks anyway.

nuguy:
Thanks. I want to be able to keep the config.txt and the cab files in the storage card. So, I can add/delete programs as I please and then do a hard reset and run the config.txt to install everything to wherever I choose to do so (either Device or Storage Card).

Colonel:
Thanks, but that is way too complex for me.

As for the Extended Rom config.txt update, how do I tell it to install on the storage card instead of the device for certain programs? If it is already written up somewhere, I must have missed it as I kept searching for this specifically.

In the config file in your extrom
You can enter CAB: \Storage Card\"program.cab" Replace "program.cab" with the .cab you want to install without the quotes
but you cannot use cabs that require user input

The issue here is the CAB file is getting installed in the device, instead I want it installed in the storage card.

For ex:

if I have,

CAB: \EXTENDED_ROM\something.cab
it will install in \Program Files\Something\...

and if I change it to,
CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\something.cab
it still installs in the above location, instead I want to install it in \Storage Card\Program Files\Something\...

Anybody???

Any automatic installation will install to main memory. If you have stuff installed to your SD, it is still there. You just need to restore the shortcuts.
