When can we see WM6 on XV6700?

I saw many HTC phones have been updated to WM6, when can we get the WM6 update on XV6700?

cohowap 05-18-2007 10:37 AM

Considering the 6700 is pretty much reaching its life end as far as sprint and verizon goes. I would say never if you were relying on them. However, there are a few people that have been trying on these forums, currently with no success. We are pretty much waiting for a CDMA phone to get it that is similar enough to the 6700 that it might work.

Thanks! It means we have to wait for it. As the news from Verizon, the XV6800 will still work on WM5, it seems we need wait for a long time.

End of Quarter Confirmed!

I recently had my xv6700 replaced by VZN Corp and was contcted by a Tier 3 technician from VZN and a Tier 2 tech from UTStarcom to ensure my satisfaction. I asked when will the xv6700 from Verizon be updated to WM6 and all agreed via 3 way call by September. So It should not be too long - true issue!

varaff 07-18-2007 08:28 PM

I too heard the same from UStarcom.

All we can do is wait

I wouldn't have believed it myself - like most of the stuff we hear in posts - but I was treated very well and the went the extra mile because I contacted the corporate offices and to have 3 individuals tell me on the phone I can personally be cool with it as long as I get it by Christmas. I don't like crap post as much as the next reader but it sounded legit to me.

There have been a ton of rumors floating around about WM6 on the 6700, And a lot of the rumors are supporting eachother for a sometime around fall release of the upgrade...

Im not going to hold my breath, But it looks like this very well may be the real deal...

Its not a bad idea, It would help prevent people attempting to break 6700's just because they want a device with WM6 on it...

phoenx06 07-18-2007 09:29 PM

Well especially since Microsoft is releasing WM6 licenses for free

AstainHellbring 07-19-2007 02:16 AM

This would be awesome if it were true!

soundwave123 07-19-2007 01:31 PM

I'm going to have to agree with Shaska that I'm not going to hold my breath. If it happens I will be one happy camper.

AKUs for WM6

And just think, Once we have WM6 on the 6700s, we can start over with bug fixes... I have to admit, I like the idea of WM6 being released just because it will encourge you coders to keep building new ROMs for the rest of us...

Yeah, that's one reason I haven't been too excited about the possibility of WM6. Same reason that I won't even consider Vista until at least SP1 (I build all our computers and have plenty of XP licenses through the Microsoft Partner program, so that shouldn't be an issue).

From what I have read, I just haven't seen enough improvements over WM5 to make it a "must have". The three most important things to me on my 6700 are:

1. Stability
2. Stability
3. Stability

Did I mention that stability was important? I need it to work... not to be "flashy".

And with the ROM I cooked from the 1.0.2 kitchen, it looks like I have the most stable PPC phone ever. So, unless someone can convince me that WM6 will offer something other than more bells and whistles, it's Helmi's WM5 AKU 3.5 v 1.0.2 that will be getting my lovin'.

computercarl 07-19-2007 04:17 PM

I took my cousin's ex boyfriend's sister's advice and hex edited the nk.exe from the mogul, and then recompiled the rom, ran it through calvin's transmogrifier, saved it as a bmp, converted it to a jpg, renamed it to a .nk and flashed it on my phone, and it seems to be working fine!! it's stable, fast, and it I can even get GPS information right on the screen from the internal AGPS. After that flash, and the new 1.42 radio flash (hexedited and bmp'ified to get 4 more battery bars) It also has helped my coverage, now I get all 8 bars where before it said no signal. Not to mention my battery life has improved, it's been almost a week since I flashed, and it's still > 1/2 charged, and thats after using it to stream xm using coreplayer via IR to my laserprinter. TAlong with the new radio, the internet is faster, way faster, and Youtube videos work fine now. The new hex edits allowed me to run the wm7 emulation layer, which is also Vista64 compatable, so I can run both Vista and wm7 (from Colonel's prerelease) apps, including the new wm7 MMS app, and they all scream.

IT ROX!!!

coming soon to a FTP near you!!

AMDfreak 07-19-2007 04:21 PM

:spam2: :laughing3: :^o

huey 07-19-2007 04:27 PM

ComputerCarl, that's awesome. Who knew it would be so easy to port WM6 to the 6700?

Please upload to the FTP when you have a chance. ;)

akadonny 07-19-2007 05:03 PM

so gullible. wm7? 8 battery bars that give better receiption? come on.

vboyz103 07-19-2007 05:34 PM

ComputerCarl, u saying u got WM6 running on 6700?

cmon, "saved it as a bmp, converted it to a jpg,"??

Just my way of livening up the thread... Trust me, if anyone gets wm6 running on the apache, it'll be 1 of 3 people -- A dev at HTC, Someone at XDA, or Helmi_c, definaylt not a fat network engineer like me...

I think MSFT needs to add a manually initiated crash feature to WM6 just like they have in XP...

I have some strange desire to see a BSOD on my phone... Would be funny as hell to do and show to people...

That's a useless program I can write :)

Just push enter on the joystick and it exits, hehe.

lol niiice! the best useless program ever invented!

Its kinda sad how I can pretty much recite the blue screen text by memory now that I see it about 20 times a day at work...

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer..." XD

AstainHellbring 07-25-2007 07:20 PM

Anyone heard anything more about this?

angel12 07-25-2007 08:58 PM

not antytime soon. if and when it happens it will make front page news just like the other rom updates

Bushrod 07-26-2007 09:10 AM

Oh, that's good news. I thought that it wouldn't happen if someone didn't ask if it was available every 5 minutes.

It's been 3 hours... how about now? ;)

tiermann 07-26-2007 12:55 PM

 Call Sprint about it, hourly. They love to hear from their customers. :D

phoenx06 07-26-2007 01:09 PM

Call them enough and you may get out of your contract early, lol

TechnoHippie 07-26-2007 02:02 PM

It depends on how cold it gets before we see WM6.... like it needs to be cold enough for hell to freeze over.

angel12 07-26-2007 02:45 PM

im holdin out for htc to do it for us, oh how i hope the rumors are true about a fall release... then again, my apache is extremely stable, why would i want to mess it up with a brand new os? it'd be like going to vista all over again...

EtherealRemnant 07-27-2007 02:25 AM

WM6's RAM usage is about 5-6MB above WM5 as well...

I'd much rather have more free RAM than WM6.
