Re: Android release on HTC Apache *CDMA Works!*

Well after such a long "vacation" from android on the apache I'm sad to see nothing else came of it. I sold my spare apache that was used for testing this and now my primary apache is off duty so I can mess around with this again finally. I read on the site theres new stuff but I have no idea how to do ANY of that compiling and making and all that stuff, so I guess I'm stuck waiting for your next "premade" release to start testing and fooling around again.

Re: Android release on HTC Apache *CDMA Works!*

Ok I have a few questions.

1. Did you ever get android to run on the apache?

I am thinking you did but in reading the forums I must have missed any down load links ect.

2. going to assume you were useing 1.5 or before can you verify which release you were using.

I am curious as Sprint has the Hero and the issue with the Hero is Sprints grasp on how the phone boots up cant be broken just wondering if anything you did could help.

Re: Android release on HTC Apache *CDMA Works!*

Ok, I know I'm coming in almost a full year after anyone has talked about this... probably cause these phones are completely outdated now... but i have an old one i want to convert it... problem is that while i'm pretty computer savvy i'm not Linux savvy (yet.. only on day 2 with it). Is there by chance a file I could simply load onto my card and not have to rewrite a bunch of files? It seems like, to your credit, you have done all the rewriting. Does it just not work to make a file on the card with all the modified "stuff" on it? I guess I'm must be missing something.

This is a really cool project and I have to say that I am in absolute awe of what it's taken to do this.

Re: Android release on HTC Apache *CDMA Works!*

Indeed, my apologies for dropping off the face of the earth for a bit folks, sorry if some of you were a bit disappointed.

Basically, between things getting hectic at work and me hitting a brick wall on the kernel development, I didn't have the time or interest to continue. After my wife got laid off (she worked @ the same company as me) most of my side-project time had to be spent on things that generated income, which I'm sure many of you can understand. Trust me, I'd rather be hacking on a kernel than writing web applications...

Developments in the community, kernel support, HTC's Hero source code, and an increasing interest in Android have led me to resume the project recently though I don't have any releases for people to play with at the moment. I am working with kernel 2.6.27 from the latest android git source atm and have managed to get back to where I was before putting it all on hold. If I can get past this development roadblock the rest is all downhill.

I've regained the time and interest to continue, and resumed kernel development about a week ago. I'll be sure to post any progress made to here and to my blog.

Sorry to hear about all the difficulties, I know I can relate to losing income just as well as (if not more than) so many people today. Good luck with the roadblock, I am quite excited to see that you have the opportunity to work some more on this awesome project!

Thanks, I'm pretty excited to have the time and money to get back into my side projects. Of all my side-projects, this one has always been the most interesting to me.

Re: Android release on HTC Apache *CDMA Works!*

I was wondering if anything new is out for the xv6700. I still use this phone but have an extra one I want to play with. I would love to get this up and running if possible. I cant afford an android phone ATM.

Re: Android release on HTC Apache *CDMA Works!*

You should probably just work with the andromnia guys. There's a lot of duplicate effort. Each phone seems to have it's own dev group, which is kinda silly really. Yes, chipsets are different, etc, but in linux, the difference is just a kernel config, and drivers for similar chipsets tend to be... well... similar. Just a though. I still have an apache for testing, and an omnia that I need to get android onto (actually runs pretty well, just need cdma support, and power saving support).
