SMS errors - Please help!

I have had my 6700 for about a month now. I am an Alltel subscriber.

I text probably 30 texts a day, with Alltel, Cingular and Sprint users.

Last night, out of the blue, my texts messagers received from anyone other than Alltel, are scrambled. THey look like this - 7#*20>?! or something to that affect!

A text from an Alltel person is fine, I can read it. I called Alltel and they say there is nothing wrong on my line - it must be my phone. My husband and son are on my account, with different phone numbers - and they get texts from everyone else just fine.

So, this does lead me to believe it's JUST my phone not accepting non-Alltel texts - so WTH?? Alltel had be soft and hard boot - no help whatsoever. I've looked at every setting I can think of on this phone, and can NOT figure it out.

The only thing that had happened, right before it went haywire - my Motorola 850 Blue tooth won't link with this phone either - and my friend was trying to get it to work, and he'd gone on the internet on my phone to research online (not really sure what he was looking for) anyway, he said he couldn't find why it wouldn't link. 10 minutes later, I get my first text that is scrambled. I can not imagine what he could have done that made it start messing up though. Surely a hard boot would have erased any damage he MIGHT have done anyway.

So, I've looked online all day and found you guys, and you are my last hope!! Please someone tell me you know what the hell is wrong with my texting!!

Thks - B

not something ive seen or heard of before at my store in the service department.

Are you running the stock alltel ROM, and if so, is there an update available for you?

have you yet attempted a hard reset?

Is the memory on the handset full? (this causes a TON of weird problems)

Are you aware of the "cleartemp" programs (memmaid, cleartemp 093, etc) these will help free up memory... if its full that is.

Post back and lemme know, I may have some suggestions once we clear up the obvious. And while your here, we have some SWEEEET rom upgrades out there that are reported working 100% with alltel customers.

Sarid's is solid
Colonel is solid
mine of course
kevs clean & simple

this may be just the excuse your looking for to upgrade your phone hehe!

yes the hard reset was done, to no avail.

my memory says:
STORAGE:
Total 43.5MB
In Use 6.03MB
Free 37.47MB

PROGRAMS:
Total 49.42MB
In Use 22.47MP
Free 26.95MB

My Rom is the 1.04.00 version - I read on here that there is a newer version. But really, if it was working fine one minute, then not the next - would they be the problem?

I have had this happen from time to time. For me it was always a message that I sent and it was always when I had copied and pasted from a Note or PIE into the text message. It would show up to the other person as jibberish and random characters.

As far as your problem specifically, the only thing I can suggest is trying to do a real solid experiment. Hopefully you have some co-workers or friends that will put up with you for a bit. Just try everything you can think of to test to see if there is a definite pattern. If you can send to them fine, have them forward you message back to you, etc.

I see that the tech rep had you do a hard reset. Have you added anything to the phone since? If so, I would suggest doing another hard reset and test with just the stock rom. And, as J stated, make sure you have either the latest official Alltel rom or possible upgrade to a 3.5 rom.

No I have not added or altered anything since the Hard reset....

I have asked my friends to send me a text that said "test" typed exactly like that....every one of the came to me DIFFERENT!! LOL total crap, some were 20 characters long, some 7. No rhyme or reason to it that I could find.

It's like the text is coming in on a font that my 6700 can't recognize, so it tries to decode it or something. But like I said, for 30 days it worked fine, then bam, it stopped.

WoW... im baffled to be quite frank. So you cant SEND or RECEIVE text messages properly. It sounds like your outlook may be botched. A reflash *may* work, but im hard pressed to have you go through all of that trouble.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I hate to suggest an upgrade but, lemme suggest an upgrade. You will not be dissapointed, that im pretty sure of. But shy of a reflash of stock software, or an upgrade, i dont see a way to repair your outlook control files.

If you have questions about reflash/upgrade PM me and i can walk you through it step by step.

ok Big J - I may just do that!

To clarify though - my texts to everyone are fine. All my friends get my texts and can read them fine. It's just their texts to me that I can't read.

if you prefer i can send you a ROM that will look & feel exactly like your alltell stock rom with no retail applications etc. The techs at the alltel store will have no idea you have a custom ROM on your handset if that is your concern.

lemme know, i have my "unbranded" kitchen at work so i can build an alltel ROM tomorow for you if you like, and dont want to go full custom

LOL ok, you might as well have been speaking French there, cause I have NO IDEA what all that meant!! LOL

Sure shot me whatever, and hell I don't care what Alltel thinks - I have insurance and this phone may meet with an untimely demise very soon! Alltel was zero help so they can kiss my rear!

I'm at wits end and will trust you to do whatever you think may help - you are the only one with ideas so far!! and I truly appreciate that!
