The "smarts" I was refering to is a protection circit often built into a battery to protect the cells from over discharge (both current and voltage), over charge (voltage), and load balancing between cells if present. (http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp...S&Category=178
Thats what I thought, just making sure. You threw me off when you said "less than it's 1C rating" in the first post. But after reading it again I get what you were saying. Thanks.

And by the way, in my first post where I said that camera flash transformers are small and everything, I just want to make it clear to anyone daring enough to start soldering w/o knowledge of electronics:

DO NOT USE A CAMERA FLASH TRANSFORMER FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN A CAMERA FLASH! Although technically not dangerous, the risk of getting the 300V shock is not worth the pain and numb arm/hand/leg/your extrmetiy here.

I disagree. Most transformers are dangerous, only a few are good:

If you want to see how to make a "zapper" out of a disposable camera and it's effects, search youtube as they have a clip on how to do this....and it will leave burn marks!

Yes. Vouching for that. They really *do* hurt. And keep in mind that a charged flash capacitor can hold a charge for a very long time.
