OEM Software from ROM Kitchens

I've been trying to read, but I'm such a slacker. At least I can admit it.

Anyway ...

Is there a way to install or rather use the OEM programs that are found in kitchens? Using regular program space and not the ROM?

Okay, after reading your other thread, I better understand your question. I am guessing that you want to pull some of the built in apps out of a rom, right? What device are you trying to move them to? The trick here is that not all apps will work with all devices. And, it can be difficult to track down everything you need.

If you are strictly talking about stuff in the OEM folder, please give an example. I understand you question a little more, but I still do not see what exactly you are trying to do. How about an example.

I ahve the opposite question. How do I get OEMs into a ROM? What happens when it comes time register? How is that done if the OEM is read only which I believe it has to be?
(Maybe i should start a new thread?)

You will probably not be able to do any OEMs as trials. From what I can tell, it seems that when the phone boots, the app registers the date. However, when you set the correct date, the apps trial period is over. So, you either have to register the app or install a trial from a cab.

I think one part of jrs' question was, is it possible to register a trial version (if you are a legitimate owner) when the files are in ROM and are read-only. It *is* possible to register trialware in an OEM. I'm using the Resco Explorer 2007 OEM (put up by user jonahan - it's nice work and works great so far!). I can just go in and enter my Owner Name and code and it registers just fine.

Exactly haus. And firstly, how do get those trial versions for which I am the owner into the ROM?

Thanks Colonel for trying to get what I'm trying to say. I'm actually using your recenctly released ROM (I voted) but I was using Big J's before. When he released his 9.6 kitchen a few days, I was currious as to if I could take some of his OEM software (in his OEM folder) and just install it like regular software. The OEM folder doesn't really have any .cabs or anything, but a bunch of files (registry entries) and at times some .exe's. Just wondering how to "use" thess with out having to use the ROM i guess.

Most of those OEMs are built from .cab files. You might do a google for "ppc (name of program you want)" I suppose if you installed all the files (minus the .dsm, .rgu, and initflashfiles.txt) into your Windows directory, then entered everything in the .rgu file into your registry, then copied any files listed in the initflashfiles to the location indicated in that file, then it would work for you. It SURE would be easier to just get the .cab, though!
