AKU 3.5 Questions...

What the heck is it?! I mean, I'm not all that educated in PocketPCs. I know what I'm doing and how to use one, but this surpasses my knowledge at this point. I understand that it is a custom/different Rom than the original that the 6700 comes with. I understand that some programs have been removed, and others added.

If I were to try this, how do I leave it 'Unlocked'?!
If I don't like it, and did another Hard-Reset, would it go back to factory?
What programs might I have problems with?

I'm sorry, it's just that I want to try it, but I can't find these exact answers in the post for this Rom or whatever... I believe that it's better to have at least some knowledge when messing with something like this. Not all of us are PPCGeeks.....yet.

You don't need to know what it is, we could explain it to ya but you probably wouldn't understand, so just know that you "need" it! I recommend Kirvin's Clean & Simple AKU 3.5, but there are several Colonel fans here too.

I want to chime in too, I'm completely new to PPC's, but I did mess around with flashing/flexing GSM phones a while back. What exactly would the benefits be to a novice PPC user by flashing to a 3.x ROM? I've only had my 6700 for a few days, but I love tinkering with stuff.

The bottem line with a 3.5 over the standard 2.2 is that:
1.) it is alot faster and in my experience more stable
2.) it has a much better looking user interface
3.) it adds some neat apps like "internet sharing"
4.) the extra Sprint stuff is removed and you are able to use you extended rom to load progam into and therefore leaving you more storage space on your device

If you need anymore reasons just let me know.

When flashing make sure to read and follow the directions carefully and you should be very happy with it.

Basically, Windows 98 is the best example. If your PC came pre-loaded with Windows 98, then this is the Windows 98 SE release. Mostly the same, but includes new functionality, more stability, and some cool new programs.

PLUS, it is SO much easier to customize this, so you can "cook" your ROM with all your favorite programs preloaded into it, and a hard reset will get you right back to your newly "cooked" ROM if you ever have trouble. This does mean that a hard-reset will not get you back to stock Sprint. You would have to re-flash to an official Sprint ROM to get back to stock, but that is easy to do.

Okay, cool. I appreciate all the information.

However, I do still need the answer to one of those questions. If I use this ROM, will that void my insurance with Sprint? I only ask b/c my phone is already a little messed up, but the manager said he'd upgrade me to the 6800 when it came out. I don't wanna risk losing that offer...

All you have to do is flash back to the stock ROM and you can exchange it.

Okay, so then how do I 'flash' back to the stock ROM?
