another n00b Q: 6700 freezes on calibration screen

hi everyone - wow, what a rich site! I've been spending the morning wandering through the apache threads and reading up on the 6700 I just purchased from ebay.
I can tell this site will be invaluable, so thanks to all the experts out there who have taken the time to share such great info with us n00bies!

I've been eyeing the 6700 for a year now, wanting to try my first foray into the ppc world (been a palm user for years, sorry guys ).

So I buy this 6700 off ebay and it won't move past the calibration screen. It freezes up. Will flashing the phone possibly solve this problem? (And have I supplied enough info?)

Welcome to Geekdom! One thing the 6700 gods may want to know is what ROM your device is running and what other software is installed, if you know

Welcome to PPCGeeks! Me, weedahoe, Geekcop, jabu and a huge list of people spend a lot of time here. So what is curently on the device? Have to tried hard reseting? And you may want to cook a custom rom for it. I have instuctional videos on how to do that. As well a 6700 review on some of the great stuff this machine can do. The link for that is in my signature.

Re: another n00b Q: 6700 freezes on calibration screen

I'm so sorry - I got unexpectedly called away (had I known, I would have waited until I returned to post). as soon as I return, I'll look at the phone and update you on the ROM/software installed.

Again - thanks so much for being willing to help me muddle through this.
I'll post again in a day or two (SO sorry for the inconvenience!!!)

Hmmm... Flashing might help...

Worst case is a bad touchscreen... If that happens, you can use the OEMizer program to configure a n OEM to bypass the calibration screen by flashing a custom ROM and doing a hard reset... If the touch screen is completely dead, you might use MyMobiler to remote control the screen, or BlueInput (or BlueMouse) software and a bluetooth mouse just to play with it until you can get it repaired...

Best case is a software conflict being caused such as using TouchFlo... Flashing with a minimal ROM will fix this kind of problem...

Re: another n00b Q: 6700 freezes on calibration screen

I'm back - with the phone - and the ROM version is 2.06.00 WWE. I did a hard reset and set it back to factory. Didn't make a difference. The digitizer will not recognize the center of the 4th tap (the 3rd corner). I can get it to move up to the last corner if I tap above it, but then cannot get it to recognize any tap on the final target. This occurs in both "portrait" and "landscape" modes.

Since there's been a hard reset, I'm assuming the only software on it is what came with Sprint - esp since it looks like the regular ROM from '06...?

So now we get to exactly how green I am as a n00b...!! I know how to hard reset, I understand that the digitizer could have gone bad, or that it might be a touchflo issue, but don't have the first clue how to solve that problem!

PDAPhoneJunkie, I watched your tutorial, and I got a bit lost but am trying to learn. I've read the kitchen tutorial, and have downloaded the PPCkitchen buildOS. The Updater's running now, grabbing the Apache-base ROMs.

I'd like to try flashing the phone to see if it clears up the problem. Is there a minimal ROM you would suggest I try for my very first ever "Flash" (gweez, I feel so new at this!!!!)?

Re: another n00b Q: 6700 freezes on calibration screen

Woo-hoo! I successfully used the Kitchen's BuildOS to cook a ROM and install it. You guys are amazing - this is sooo cool!
I think I have a bad digitizer on the far right side of the screen, because the same problem occurs with the new ROM. I'm now running the Apache WM6.1 20755 Selections with minimal apps.

PsiPhi, I'm going to search now for the steps to bypass the calibration screen, as well as locate the MyMobiler OEM to download. Any directions or words of wisdom? I'd appreciate any help you guys have the time to give.

Again - thanks!!

____ EDIT ___

PDAPhone Junkie, I watched your youtube tutorial a second time with the BuildOS app open on my PC, and that was REALLY helpful. Thanks!

Download the OEMizer program from below:
http://tiermann.net/index.php?option...sktop&Itemid=3

On running the program, Check the box next to Calibration on the left, then verify "Pre-Calibrate Stylist" is unchecked (I think... If unchecked doesn't work, try checked instead... Can't quite remember the setting for sure...)

Yell if you need more details...
