PPC 6700- storage card files disappeared!!!

I have a PPC 6700 with a 1Gb SanDisk miniSD card. All my word documents, movies and pictures are stored on this thing. Aprx. 119 mb worth. I was writing a word document and saving pictures to it last night fine. All of a sudden I try to access it and I can't get to anything!!? When I go to the settings-->memory-->storage card--> it shows that there is 119 mb in usage, but I cannot find any files! also, my storage card is now called storagecard2...? And only has 3 empty folders viewable (My pictures, UAcontents and some weird inbox.ms2138273 etc). Is there ANY way I can retrieve the files on my memory card because they are VERY valuable to me and it appears that they are still on the card, just I can't get to them!
Anybody who has insight or experience would be a lifesaver!

Thanks!

if you've ulocked/unhidden extended_rom, then you'll have this issue again later, if not it was just a bit of bad luck

1) soft reset
2) eject the card - LEAVE IT OUT for now
3) using file explorer, or total commander, delete folder "Storage Card"
4) re-insert card

All should be well again

Why this happens:

If you have anything that is "store on card" - pocket outlook email attachments is common for example, and for any reason your card is not "ready" when the app tries to access "Storage Card" - then it just makes a folder in internal memory named Storage Card, and runs with it - later, your real storage card becomes ready and is mounted as "Storage Card 2" - which isn't really what you want at all.

This can also happen more often when you unlock/unhide your extended rom.

Anyway, the stuff is all still there, you just need to pop the card, delete the folder named Storage Card, and then re-insert the card.

I tried the steps listed above and it didnt work. when I remove my card, the storage card folder goes away as well. When I put it back in, the folder reappears but with those same folders in it with none of my files. Is there another way to retrieve these files? Hard reset maybe? Only thing I need that is actually on the phone itself is my contacts. anything that can be done and keep that would be what I need. I appreciate your help. Thank You.

I have read other places of similiar things happenening..is there a way to "reformat" the card but still recover the documents?

Meh... so you have storage card 2 and storage card?

Storage Card 2 is your actual storage card, and should have everything in it.

Storage Card is just a folder in your internal store.

If you have both of those, then doing the steps above should get rid of storage card 2, and assuming the files are still on the card, get you access to the card again.

If you have any way to access the card from a desktop or laptop windows pc, it should also be possible to get at the contents of the card that way. It's probably not a bad idea to try that anyway - if you can't read the contents of the card via a desktop/laptop windows, then the card has somehow gotten wonked out... when that happens there's not too much hope of getting anything off it, but a reformat will at least get it back to fully functional.

ok, well, I used to have both storage card2 and storage card. I think I renamed storage card2 as storage card after deleting storage card last nite. Now, when i try and access the storage card, same empty folders, but it says storage card instead of storagecard2...also, even when I first had the mini SD, I could never get it to read in my laptop with the converter..i had to explore/add files from my laptop to the card by wiring my phone to the comp with the card in the phone...If I hard reset my phone, I lose all contacts right? If I activesync to my laptop before, then hard reset, can I get my contacts back into the phone and see if the card works then? If I have already lost the files on the card, I cannot lose my contacts as well so I want to know if I can put my contacts back in after hard reset if I sync to my comp first.

Try this

REMOVE THE CARD

soft reset

Now, leave the card out, and check for any folders named Storage Card, or any variant of them. Recall, the card is still out.

DELETE those folders.

Insert storage card, no reset or anything... check for Storage Card now.

You may have done a bad thing renaming Storage Card 2 as Storage Card.

Soft reset is the little reset buttonhole on the bottom - it does not lose any data at all. I do it all the time :p

I did the above steps. Storage card or any other variants of that nature do not appear on my device when the card is out of the phone :(. when i replace the storage card into the phone it comes up as storage card. If I want to do a hard reset, is there anyway to save my contacts? Also, if the only way I can access my card via laptop is through my phone and not through the adapter into the slot on the comp, can I retrieve the files this way perhaps?

use activesynce or "WM5Storage to access any files on card & copy 2 your laptop.
Hard reset may solve your issue but saving files and then reformating that crap out is what I am pointing out.

ok lets try this copy this zip. to the storage card and extract to the storage card find it and open it back up your contacts to the card then do your hard reset after that go to the card and find the backup file and hit restore this should replace your contacts and then you should be good to go
