phantom text messages

Hey, noticed something and was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem...i am using the latest unified rom and everything is working great except that i keep having my phone telling me that have unviewed text messages when there are none. I am using the palm app. It will say one text message in part where my inbox is and then it will say a different number in the messaging part of my today screen. Any ideas, this is getting annoying. this is the third time it has happened and both times before i had to do a reset to fix the problem and would like to avoid resetting again or at least know what not to do if i have to reset. Thanks for any help given.
