I Don't Understand How To Back Things Up...!!
 

I downloaded an Icon for iLauncher and all of sudden my phone froze. I did a soft reset, but it just froze at the same point again. Now, I have to do another Hard Reset, and lose all my contacts, calender events, tasks, passwords... I know I need some kind of Outlook or something right? I've googled it, but I always find software that I have to buy. I just have no idea what to do, can anyone help me out?!

Download ppcpimbackup.exe from the ftp server.
ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Apache/Colonels/
it allows you to backup contacts, appts, call history, etc.
good luck and join the rest of us that hard reset almost everyday.

Hmmm... When I click the link it asks me from my PPCGeeks username and password. When I put them in (and they ARE right) it says "530 Incorrect Login" or something like that. Oh well, I'll just google it. Thanks a lot, man! Appreciate the help!

Your 6700 probably came with Outlook 2002 (I think that's the version) on a CD-ROM. You can install that plus ActiveSync (on the CD also, or available for download I think) and synchronize your device with your PC. This solution is free because the required software comes with the phone.

Separately, you can back up your 6700 with pay software like SPB Backup or Sprite Backup. There may be others.

Another option is to use a hosted exchange account, which stores all of your email, contacts, calendar, and tasks on a central server, and you can sync to your desktop and your device automatically. This is the most expensive option, though I wouldn't really rely on it as a "backup" system (I always run my own backups because hosted exchange could fail and also only stores the aforementioned items and no programs, settings, etc.). It's a great way to use the 6700 esp. if you're a working professional.

If your PPC won't boot I'm not sure if there's anything you can do at this point to save your information. Maybe someone else can chime in. I don't believe the PPC has a "safe mode" built in to boot up in an emergency.

Well then...I'm just screwed. I never got any Outlook program with my 6700. I just took a second look at the box, and there's no CD in there. I've had this phone for a while, but I took the phone, the charger and USB cables out (along with the activesync disk) and put the box away.

Nah, you're not screwed. ;)

The login for the ftp site is a generic one--it doesn't use your own personal login credentials. That's why it wasn't working for you.

So use it to download PPCPIMBackup as naigaboy suggested. It is an awesome free app and will do what you need with ease.

Sorry about that - my Verizon XV6700 came with an Outlook 2002 and Activesync 4.1 CD-ROM, and I thought all 6700s (from Sprint as well) came with the same stuff. You sure Outlook isn't on your Activesync disk?

The other backup recommendations will work better in general...but you had asked specifically about contacts, email, tasks, etc. which Activesync will back up on your PC via outlook if you sync your 6700 with your PC.

no the sprint ones come with outlook and activesync also. most people just ditch the sh*t though and go about their merry lives until disaster strikes. Then they come in all pissed off that they lost their data and we go to war nicely explaining that its the customers responsibility to

yet i digress... the pimbackup is dope, its on r1.5 now, and the author is on top of his game with this program... puts the commercial ones to shame in terms of strictly PIM

simplest method in your situation if you can get into the file explorer is to copy the PIM.VOL file to your storage card
