Re: Help with WM5.0/WM6.1 Contacts (pim.vol)
Why didn't you just sync them with AS the resync? You most of the time CAN'T restore files like that on a different OS.

Re: Help with WM5.0/WM6.1 Contacts (pim.vol)
I was more worried about bricking my phone, as this was my first ever flash
![]() The guide I followed never explained the contacts issue and to sync instead (Not the guide's fault, just pointing it out). Just wondering now why when I go back to 5.0, I still have the same contacts problem? Is my pim.vol corrupt somehow? Do I need to go back to the same version of 5.0? |

Re: Help with WM5.0/WM6.1 Contacts (pim.vol)
Yes, you need to find the exact WM5 AKU that you were using. I think VZW had a 2.2 and a 3.3 AKU. Did you try the VZW WM5 ROM from UTStarcom here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=27123 I think this is the 3.3 AKU here: http://support.vzw.com/how_to_use/xv...re_update.html You can't use the PIM.vol to backup contacts unless you are just recovering from a hard reset. Syncing would have worked or PIMbackup that runs on WM5 and 6. |

Re: Help with WM5.0/WM6.1 Contacts (pim.vol)
I have tried the ROM on UTStarcom's Website. It flashed succesfully, but my pim file still didn't take. Tried the ROM in the forum link, but it never took. I'll have to try again tonight, but I'm worried about bricking my phone.
My phone rev was 2.02 to begin with, does this tell me anything on what ROM I might be looking for? I can open pim in notepad, and see several numbers/contacts listed throughout some gibberish. I guess I might just end up sorting through this mess and adding manually. |

Re: Help with WM5.0/WM6.1 Contacts (pim.vol)
Well, that makes sense that the 2.2 from the forum link did not flash as I don't think that will load with the 2.XX bootloader version. You also can't flash that ROM with Vista. But I guess you would have to go from your own memory on how you upgraded the phone. Do you ever remember upgrading to the 3.3 ROM? What AKU was that HTC ROM? I've been googling for a way to convert the PIM.vol into some usable format but haven't seen anything. You are putting the saved copy in the root directory of the phone, right? I suppose you might try going the PIMbackup route and, even though the file appears to be nonfunctional, create a backup if it will let you, and then see if it restores it. I dunno.

Re: Help with WM5.0/WM6.1 Contacts (pim.vol)
Yeah I've been googling how to possible convert the pim file into something (excel, etc), to no avail as well. Everyone is saying to flash back and reload it.
The 3.3 AKU I loaded was from HTC's website. And yeah, I'm renaming the pim.vol on the phone to pimx.vol and then copying MY personal pim.vol into the root directory, soft reset. I've tried pimbackup (after the fact), and it seems to backup fine, but when I try to restore I hit an error. I opened the file in notepad and auto-replaced all the symbols & characters with nothing so it's not looking so bad now. It'll take me a while to put them back in my phone, but I'm not sure if I have any other choice. Last question: Is there any way I can type in contacts on my computer and transfer them over? Via syncing through...outlook maybe? Anyone get what I'm sayin here? |

Re: Help with WM5.0/WM6.1 Contacts (pim.vol)
Wrong, you CAN flash a ROM with Vista. I do it all the time. I can flash premade stock ROMS on here. If there ever is an issue disabling WMDC USB Connections WILL fix it. Also they say running the kitchen as administrator works, nah, nothing has worked for me except for disabling connections.

If you have Outlook, yes, then you can sync to the phone with AS/WMDC. That's how it was designed for. You can also sync Live and Yahoo contacts to the phone via an internet connection.
