You know, I wonder if one could get the ROM upgrade and software that's mentioned (and linked to) on that link in the first post, open it up and find out what makes the GPS enabled/run/work and all the other goodies and see if it works for other HTC phones. I can't imagine that HTC would make such similar phones and change all the hardware pieces in each one. Would be way too expensive no? I have never seen a P3600 or any of the other phones on there actually, I wish I knew someone that had one though.

according to htc the apache DOES have a GPS chip (Not a a-gps chip), disabled by carrier request. There is quite a thread about it over @ pdaphonehome.com

I read the article linked to above, and tried to download the software, but they want a device serial# to download it so no go, anyone have access to one of these phones??? This could be a HUGE breakthrough!

I am with aughsum... unlock the GPS on a 6700 and you get a false idol constructed in my front yard.

I looked all over PDAPhonehome and cannot find the mentioned thread about the GPS.

an interesting thought...given since we use stuff extracted from other HTC phones in our modded rom packages...perhaps it's only a matter of time before someone figures it out or HTC releases more rom upgrades for its other phones

as stated before you need an serial number to access that download perhaps...i just wanted to ask programmers and those who are deep into the rom stuff if they think it's possible we can get this to work for the apache?

I have read some huge threads in the past week all dealing with the GPS, letters from HTC, phones and hardware and all sort of stuff. Frankly I'm lost by now. It just seems like maybe the 6700 has the wrong kind of GPS chip? Like we have one but it doesn't do autonomous (sp??) GPS or A-GPS or something?? Anyways. Don't want to start another huge thing re covering all that's in the other ones. I do wish someone could get ahold of that upgrade/software stuff on that link and see the code and stuff.
