wireless modem gets "com open error"
i need help fixing my modem. when i;m connected to usb port via cable, and i press start, i get an message that says, "com open error" this problem started when I deleted CDMA Modem #2 while my phone was still connected to the computer via usb cable. I ended up with 2 CDMA modem due to it starting an installation process while trying to connect. having 2 of them didn't interfere with me connecting to web, so i left it on there. Then when i recently installed a belkin bluetooth adapter to allow me to connect via bluetooth, i noticed that although i am able to now connect to the web via bluetooth, i can't connect via cable. So while trying to fix this, i deleted one of the CDMA's without realizing i was still connected via cable until after i had done it.
I'm running the 2.2 version, and i was wondering if this can be fixed without me have to do a hard restart. my phone is really running good the way i like, so i was hoping I wouldn't have to do a restart by maybe going into the registry or something. another thing. when using the blue tooth connection, i keep loosing the conncetion. the connection doesn't last more than about an half an hour before i have to reconnect with the web Finally, i recently bought my daughter a new laptop with vista premium software. i've done various search here on this connection issue. my question is can i use my phone to connect to both my laptop with XP windows and my daughter's laptop Vista window without me loosing accessibility to the other ? Also, is there a way to connect to Vista without me having to upgrade to the upgrade to the 3.5 version? and is there a cab file to get the needed driver for the vista modem driver. again I've research this issue, but i'm not totally clear on it. I'm an electrician, so i'm sort of familiar with material on here, but i'm not an IT programmer sorry for dumping all of this on this one topic, but i wasn't sure if I should make them separate topics. |
i finally figured out that i needed to go to microsoft.com to get the activesync for window vista , but i still can't get my wmodem to connect due to thee error message. can somebody please help me with this problem. This site use to be a sight where all post got an answer and everybody was offered help. But now it seems like only the questions involving super technical stuff gets answered. sorry if i'm not able to read every post to find the answer, i just don't have the time. i work hands on in the field and the plant floor, so i just don't have the time to read every post. i would appreciate kind of suggestions to help me figured out a way to fix my modem.

The COM OPEN error seems to have something to do with the data connection being connected before clicking "Start" in WModem. Try this:
1. Soft reset 2. Immediately after the OS boots (before it dials #777) bring up Wmodem 3. Click Start 4. Then plug in the USB cable to the PC That should work. If it doesn't then you may need to do a hard reset on the phone. |
i tried doing the soft reset, and it didn't work. i do agree with you that it's a data connection issue. But i forgot to add that i am able to activesync with my computer via cable, so the data connection is with the wmodem only. i realize that a hard reset is probably my only way to fix this, but i really hope you guys and help me figure out a way to fix it without doing a hard reset. i want to thank you too Luv2chill for trying to assist me with this.

i gave in and did the hard reset.  and it works. now i have to go through the process of re-adding everything back on it. thanks again

I think the lack of response here is because no one really knows all the potential causes of that error. I know I have only received it when trying to enable wmodem with data already connected.
Glad you got the problem solved. |
