I don't believe it should cost all that much more to implement this idea.
Having this ultra thin phone would diminish the desire for a purchase of a headset - which many of us pay upwards to $100 extra. And of course there will be certain things that will need to be added to the display part in order for it to work effectively, but this is just my concept - which is something to brainstorm and build upon. It is similar to a docking station idea - scaled down to pocket. It would also set this phone apart from all the rest - which are ever increasingly becoming all the more similar. And this is making it all the more important for companies to find a way to stay in the game, and software solutions will now only get them so far. I would also like to see a better case design in regards to drop protection. - rubberized bumpers I just though of another use for the detachable keyboard part... - ability to place the keyboard part in a better signal area. (which would be within 30' bt range) Basically it would give you the ability to just place the keyboard part (which has antenna) close to the window while you walk around and talk in places you wouldn't normally get reception. And with the previously mentioned bt alarm function I stated in the first post it would warn you if you forget about it and walk too far away. Yes. I know. I'm a genius. -Raging Idiot |

cool idea, i'm not sure if the guts of the phone would be able to be housed in the keyboard section though because bluetooth is still not quite reliable enough to send a continuous video signal over.
you could theoretically do something similar to this with one of the imate models or just about any other PDA really... if you were to take something like a Dell Axim with bluetooth and pair it to a bluetooth enabled cellphone and bluetooth keyboard, you could basically do the same thing. granted this solution wouldn't really be as cool or "portable" as your idea. |

Nope... I'm talking about a dual processing system. A weaker system on the display for size limitations. When attached they would work together as a much more robust system.
I've yet to find anything that comes anywhere near the functionalities that this phone has with the functionalities in which I propose with the same portability at any price point. Every day that I've thought about it I've came up with new uses for this idea....today was no different... - Add Microphone to keyboard part to allow walkietalkie/babymonitor/spy usage between parts. - Ability to take candid pictures & video while viewing remotely. Not sure if the video relay would have to be scaled down on the display for wireless streaming to take place, but even if that's the case or even if the wireless streaming video isn't possible at all it still wouldn't bother me as this is just a concept and *any* ideas implemented here would be a step in the right direction. The remote video idea would work similar to this: You notice that hottie over there to your left seems to be eyeing you, haha but you can't really tell and you can't easily determine the intentions.... so you split the phone in half and hold the keyboard/camera part in your left hand by your side while viewing the display in your right hand in front of you. And yep, you're being looked up and down by that hottie that thinks you can't see ---proceed accordingly. lol Hell if we can get it to work this way then the phone could also double as a rear view mirror for various types of cyclists (display part in front and keyboard/camera part in back). |

Just more brainstorming from the local Raging Idiot...
- Install Louder speaker on display part so it also has speaker phone ability while separated.... and with this increased speaker comes the desire to play music from BOTH phone pieces at the same time- while separating them for stereo effect. - A 3in1 stylus that will function as a stylus, a pen, and a laser pointer - should be standard issue on this phone which incidentally I've seen marketed as "swiss army knife of phones". not to leave out of course the obvious: - Built-in GPS - Better Display/ VGA resolution That'll probably be all I can think of for hardware wishes for a while, so next up will be a software wishlist - only to include that which has not yet been achieved...or "known" about! It will be interesting to check back on this thread 12 months from now and compare what has happened since. I created a function wishlist 18months ago when I first got this 6700, and I think nearly everything on it has since been achieved. Except ability to triangulate off of cell towers for relative positioning. But things such as the "flashlight" function and the ability to use phone as webcam was soon realized. I came up with my own solution for my number 1 on the list - which I wanted to remote control my car stereo with my phone--without bt. I've been wanting to build on this idea and be able to remote start my car and unlock my doors with the 6700....But I've been lazy, and with that, I'll soon start my list of software advances I would like to see... |
