Official List of Necessary ExtRom Cabs For Each Carrier

I know that there are a lot of threads out there dealing with the Sprint ExtRom and a few dealing with Verizon, but I would like to have one central source dealing with the ExtRoms of all of the apache carriers. I will continue to update this first thread so the info is always easily found.

One of the reasons I am doing this is because I am starting to build carrier dependent stuff into roms. I am sure this will only increase with kitchen releases and it will become necessary for people to know what they "have" to build in and what can be skipped.

There will be three catagories. Necessary cabs are cabs that must be installed for proper functionality of all services. For instance, Sprint needs certain cabs to run to set up the data connection. Optional cabs are cabs that may perform some settings changes or other registry edits that the carrier wanted to set. While these cabs are not absolutely necessary, it might be recommended to install them anyway. Junk cabs are the obvious waste of binary code and there really is no reason someone would want to install them unless the individual wants a certain app like Audible on Sprint.

Here is a start. Note: *=Necessary, +=Optional, /=junk

SPRINT:

*IOTA.sa.CAB
*PP_IOTA_v1_10_Apache_206300.sa.CAB

Note: ButtonLock is not on the ftp yet. There are also other cabs on the ftp from the Sprint Extrom, but I will not list them right now because they are either junk or no longer needed.

Well, for Verizon, technically it's all optional. You can get away without loading any of the ExtRom cabs and your phone will work just fine. You have to set up the data connection manually (using phone number #777 and leave username/password/domain blank, when first connecting and it asks for them again, leave them blank and check the remember box). You also have to set up the voicemail number yourself and the ## numbers don't work, but the phone functions just fine and is completely generic but for the logo on case.

ls6tt 04-04-2007 07:59 PM

Love the list, possibly post links next to the .cabs so people know where to get them?

I've used the Verizon without any of the ExtROM customizations on all the ROMS and it works fine.

THe only thing I install is the MMS application because I send/receive picture messages sometimes..

colonel 04-04-2007 09:04 PM

yeah, I will link the files eventually.

So for Verizon, you don't need any cabs. Remember though, that this list is also for newer users. I will mark them all optionional for now. Which of the VZ cabs are necessary for a new user that does not know how to do it manually? I will mark them optional, but recommended.

luv2chill 04-04-2007 09:12 PM

Well technically none of the Sprint cabs are strictly necessary for the phone to work either. Same as Verizon--you must already have the nvm in your phone provisioned and you have to set up the #777 connection manually, blah blah blah.

What I think is meant by necessary is the ones that set up your phone functions and data connection according to how it should be set up on your carrier (hence the different ## codes, etc.). Also, at least on Sprint you need the certificate cabs or else you're going to have problems installing apps.

So hopefully knowledgable people from the other carriers can step up here and identify what in their extrom is necessary (using the definition above). Otherwise I can go through 'em with cab manager and figure it out.

gof 04-05-2007 01:01 PM

I think this is a great thread idea. Perhaps we could also incorporate some description into what each item is (where known) as well as a link to the latest ROM that actually HAS these EXTRom images. That would make for one-stop-shopping.

For Sprint, you've obviously left off the junk (no audible for example). Also, I hadn't loaded PP_IOTA_v1_10_Apache_206300.sa.CAB, but you claim it to be required. What does it do? My data and such were all working fine as far as I could tell...

Ditto, the ## codes work fine for me, and my voice mail speed dial has always been set up automatically either by the phone or by OTASP, not that it'd be hard to program it manually.

So does this mean that if I'm making a custom extended rom, I can delete ALL of the verizon customization except for MMS? (stupid question, but I want verification)

thanks for the verification. That's the exact thread I used for the idea. Now to figure out how to solve me few other issues, and get this rom working!

Good idea colonel. If you need help linking, I have the put the Sprint cabs on the FTP in this folder: /Apache/Carrier Extended ROM/Sprint/

CAB Descriptions

Awesome post, but I do have one request... Some of the CABs are self explanatory; however, some are a bit vague (especially for us novice users).

Any guru out there care to comment on what each CAB file does, what system settings it affects, etc. (I haven't been able to locate a post about this yet.)

Thanks :P

dc 04-08-2007 02:17 PM

I found ExtRom CAB descriptions from a thread on PDAPhoneHome http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...t=extended+rom. It lists ALL of the ExtRom CAB's, including Junk. I have shown the *=Necessary and +=Optional ones for Sprint below:

*IOTA.sa.CAB - Installs for Vision provisioning.

*PP_IOTA_v1_10_Apache_206300.sa.CAB - Installs something called jTelDll.dll. Has to do with IOTA.

*Cert_SPCS.CAB - Disables the security feature from asking permission to run a certain program.

*Cert_SPCS.sa.CAB - Installs certificate.

*Customize_SPCS.sa.CAB - Installs some sprint customization.

+DirectShow.sa.CAB - Has to do with windows media player. Seems to be associating avi,3gp,mp4,m4a,mid,midi,rmi,amr,awb,3g2,qcp with that program.

+Enable_RingTone.sa.CAB - Related to RTPlugin_CDMA.sa.CAB. Seems to give option to set midi, mp3, amr, etc for ringtones.

+PhoneSetting_HelpFile.sa.CAB - Adds PhoneSetting.htm help file and add Clear Voicemail Icon setting.

+PowerICON.sa.CAB - Removes Bottom right battery icon.

+PP_ErrCodeForSPCS_Apache_206300.sa.CAB - Installs code translation. i.e. instead of Error Code 64 it will say "Unknown error. Sign in failed. Please try again. If the problem persists, turn your phone off then turn it on again."

+PP_Version_Apac_206303.sa.CAB - Adds in HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\3rdversion string MSYSTEM = 2.06.303 WWE which apparently makes a Item in Device Information called ExtROM with a description of 2.06.303 WWE.

+PT_RemoveHTCBatteryICON_Apache_206300.sa.CAB - Removes bottom right battery icon and remove title bar clock.

+ResString.sa.CAB - Has something to do with HKLM\Security\ResOver with parm name 56. Replaces Regcover.

+RTPlugin_CDMA.sa.CAB - Lets you have option of "set as ringtone" where it will copy the file to /windows/rings.

+TimeSnyc.sa.CAB - Makes it so that the time sync option is visible under Phone setting. Funny thing is that it's visible by default.

+ButtonLock.sa.CAB - Change button lock from Do not Lock buttons to Lock all but power.

colonel 04-08-2007 02:22 PM

Thanks, just what I am looking for. I have the list for Verizon as well. Just need the other carrier users to help out.

What I have found on my Alltel after several ROM updates is that the two that should be run to properly set up EvDO, ## codes, etc. are:

Default_Settings.sa.CAB
DisableDataCode.sa.CAB

... so you can probably mark those as * or + depending on how you feel about manual setup of parameters.

I haven't missed any of the other ones. I do know that blindly letting all of them run caused problems. As I said, been through several of the custom ROMs (currently running Kirvin's NoJunk 3.5).

Doesn't seem like you folks hear from us Alltel users much, so hopefully this helps.

Got the Alltel cabs ready, but dang if I can find the thread that gives instructions on how to upload them to the FTP server. Anyone?
***EDIT*** Never mind, I figured it out. The Alltel Ext ROM from AKU2.2 is uploaded with the other Carrier Extended ROMs.

dsteinschneider 04-26-2007 10:25 AM

After flashing the Kirvin 3.5 NoJunk and manually setting up the data connection (but not following Jimnutt's method above in this thread) I started getting "Miscellaneous Erroneously Mobile IP Setup Occurred" Code 37 every time I took the unit out of the cradle. Also I would randomly be prompted for the vzw password.

It started the minute I began using the phone after 3.5 flash. After a call to Verizon level 3 techs I can no longer get online at all despite reflashing to 2.07.200 . A replacement phone is on its way and I'm hoping to prevent this happening again.

Was this a random problem or is it:

1. Because I didn't follow the procedure jimnutt outlined above in this thread
2. Because I should use Total Commander and type in \\Extended ROM\ and run the cabs that specifically setup the data connection?

Thanks

jimnutt 04-26-2007 11:10 AM

Could be a transient, it also could be tower related. I was having trouble with this myself (with the stock ROM) a while ago, I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was related to switching back and forth between EVDO and 1x. Is it a problem only in one location? Or does it happen everywhere you use your phone? Are you in a 1x or EVDO area? In my case the problem just seemed to solve itself after a while. You might try doing a PRL update and see if that helps..

jim

dsteinschneider 04-26-2007 11:30 AM

I live in town near the towers with 4 bars of EVDO - I do travel to one job where I go through an area with no towers and then 1xrtt

dsteinschneider 04-26-2007 11:31 AM

Why would upgrading to 3.5 suddenly start this issue?

Maxx134 04-26-2007 03:17 PM

OK so now that we have a new unified rom kitchen, it would be nice to have a custom carrier specific OEM for integrating these Extrom cabs into the rom.

Since there is a lot of unnessesary fat to trim off in these cabs, can anyone post if they have done so and made OEM already?

luv2chill 04-26-2007 03:53 PM

Yeah Sogarth and I made a pretty thorough Sprint OEM. It has a couple of modifications--a complete list of what's in and what's out can be found in a readme in the rar file.

It's in my subfolder of Kitchen OEMs.

dsteinschneider 04-30-2007 07:03 PM

Verizon replaced the phone (see above posts by me in this thread). The first thing I did was upgrade to Kirvin 3.5 NoJunk with all the proper hard resets etc and then I restored using Sprite and then I called in and activated the phone more soft resets, programming *228 and finally I created the connection - left everything blank, went to internet explorer, let it connect - again left everything blank with save checked and its been working great for two days.

ChloroFiend 05-10-2007 09:49 PM

So help me out here. In order to get full functionality with the new Unified Kitchen, i'd include the carrier specific ExtRom Cab's while cooking the rom?

colonel 05-10-2007 10:26 PM

No. At least if you are building a rom. If you want to build in the ExtRom, you will have to convert everythign into an OEM. This has been done for Sprint and you can find a couple of versions on the ftp.

If you are on another carrier, you will still need to run the necessary cabs from your ExtRom. When you flash a rom, make sure you are only flashing a nk.nbf. Then your Extrom will survive the flash. If you have a ms_.nbf in your flashing folder, you will also flash that Extrom.

ChloroFiend 05-11-2007 04:10 PM

How do I go about running those apps from the ExtRom then? Is that something that triggers automatically?

Basically, I'd like to go to a 3.5 ROM, but maintain all the functionality and what not that VZW's packaged in.

TIA!

colonel 05-11-2007 04:14 PM

They should autorun on boot.

XV6700 ROM

I am looking to create a ROM for myself including some programs that I use for work (I am a RN): ER Suite, CBRNE program, HTC X-button and Voice Command...just to save storage space by placing them in the ROM partition. Now I guess I am looking at downloading the Clean & Simple as a base. Can anyone tell me what cabs I need to add to maintain the functioning of my phone. I really only use it for text messaging, occasional pic messaging, and wifi...EVDO not a full requirement at this time but could be added. In addition I make my own ring tones. Outside of that it is a phone and a palm pc.

I am guessing my other program Epocrates can't be placed in the ROM b/c it requires database updating. In addition ER suite, CBRNE, and Voice COmmand run off a .exe file; if I place the exe file in the ROM will the program be installed in the ROM or how do I do it so the program is installed in the ROM.

Sorry, newbie.

nFiniti 06-14-2007 06:05 PM

A question about the ExtROMS... When my phone boots from a HARD Reset, when the phone pops up a screen and says in 3 seconds customization will begin, is that the ext rom?

And if so, does it matter at all for any of the cabs inside the ext rom to be there since my phone being an Alltel phone, is flashed to the Cricket Network?

When my phone boots from a hard reset, I ususaly soft reset when that window pops up, just so the things wont install.

That is when the cabs are installed from the EXT ROM.

I'm unfamiliar with the Cricket Network, so I can't help you there.

When not using a ROM that has the EXT ROM built in, some of the customizations need to run (ie the necessary ones at the top of the list). Without those cab files installed, my phone will not fully function.

nFiniti 06-14-2007 08:03 PM

I am still confused about this...

Your saying that when My phone boots from a Hard Reset, the window that pops up that says Customization will start in 3 seconds is the autorun from the extrom? Because if I let that run, the phone runs like crap.

Also I'm making my own roms, and I dont select any ext roms, just the ext rom unlocker.

I'm just trying to figure out which cabs from the ExtRom I need so I can customize my own to install HTC Audio Manager and the Broadcom BT Stack and some other odds and ends for the Cricket MMS Registry.
