Is there any documentation as to what goes where on these devices -- ROM VS. extended ROM vs installed software?

One of the reasons I am doing this is because I am starting to build carrier dependent stuff into roms. I am sure this will only increase with kitchen releases and it will become necessary for people to know what they "have" to build in and what can be skipped.

There will be three catagories. Necessary cabs are cabs that must be installed for proper functionality of all services. For instance, Sprint needs certain cabs to run to set up the data connection. Optional cabs are cabs that may perform some settings changes or other registry edits that the carrier wanted to set. While these cabs are not absolutely necessary, it might be recommended to install them anyway. Junk cabs are the obvious waste of binary code and there really is no reason someone would want to install them unless the individual wants a certain app like Audible on Sprint.

Here is a start. Note: *=Necessary, +=Optional, /=junk

Note: ButtonLock is not on the ftp yet. There are also other cabs on the ftp from the Sprint Extrom, but I will not list them right now because they are either junk or no longer needed.

How does this relate to using BuildOS?

The first page has not been updated since 4/4/08, does that mean nothing has changed, or that this thread is outdated?

Don't know if you were referring to my post or not but I would like to see a cab created for MetroPCS. So my question is in determining what file are required and how do I create a carrier cab that would contain the info needed when building an OS for Metro PCS as a carrier.

HTC apache 6700 is a cdma phone. To work in Italy you would need a gsm phone. You could use the wifi of the apache and have skype downloaded on it. Using the apache as a voip phone, but you would have to buy minutes from skype.
