A few ah.... questions...

Okay first of all I searched. I really did. The questions I have are basic n00b ones, I'm tweaking my device (I mean really tweaking it) for the first time.

1) Where do I get the latest Sprint ROM so I can undo the bricking I'm probably going to accomplish?

2) I have Vista.... there is no Active Sync anymore? How on earth do I flash the ROM? or set my preferences for phone/computer syncing (you know like phone wins, computer info changes etc...)

3) I found this (blah... can't post the link...it's How to Enable Picture Mail (MMS) )
Does this work with Colonels AKU3.5???

4) Where is my MSVC .exe file? I own 1.5, having issues getting handago to remember I paid them for it and get the 1.6 to me... But I read the thread about how to copy the .exe etc. to get it working... I just don't know where it is.

5) I currently use SPB Pocket Plus.. is it in one of these ROM's (I tried reading all the diff. threads to see what had what... totally confuzzled now..) if so, do I do the "copy the exe thing" ?

Sorry for the annoyance of what is simple stuff for you guys... This forum is a little overwhelming for a new person. But....I really do appreciate the help!!!

few updates:

1) Thank you Colonel.... You have quite the goldmine in that siggy link...

2) Vista is making me want to slap myself.

3) Still unanswered

4) Still unanswered

I'm going to figure out how to flash the ROM to my phone and then see what's on it.

From what I have read I put it in bootloader mode, usb to pc, open up the files and let the installer work, then I hard reset, then the extrom picks up once booted and continues its thing? Is that right or are you all laughing now?

There isnt a rom that has SPB. I know, cuz I've tried most, as I'm a big SPB user. I rolled a rom at one point, but I never got MSVC working in rom.

As to where your msvc.exe is, you can look in your hard drive, c:\program files\microsoft activesync for cabs or related folders. (not on a machine with AS on it...) There should be a cab for msvc, and you should be able to open the cab, find the exe and save it on your phone... well, its a bit more complex than that... I'd suggest searching the forums or asking someone in the chat that can get you hard info...

If you really want SPB in rom, I'd suggest learning how to download the kitchen and roll your own. It's really not that hard, and almost impossible to brick your phone, but you will need to hard reset and flash some stuff. I'd suggest doing lots of reading here and chatting on our chat.

As to your "from what I have read" line, you're dead on. However if you are using a custom rom, you probably want to soft reset at the "3 seconds til customization" and dont let the extrom run, as it usually installs files that conflict with the newer version of the AKU (think of AKU as "windows updates for ppc")

Hope this helps more than it confuses.

I just posted the solution to flashing in Vista in another thread, but while I've got it in the clipboard might as well paste it again.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723

It's not easy, but it can be done.

You must use MSVC 1.6 in all of these ROMs. To get the .exe, install MSVC prior to flashing the new ROM, copy the .exe to your PC via Activesync or to your miniSD, then copy into /Windows on your PPC after you flash to the new ROM.

Okay I have MSVC 1.6 thank you for warning me!

Thank you for the link to the Vista ROM deal, will carefully try that right now.

From the posts I've read, (holy huge post count batman) I am supposed to let the extrom run... but then a few people have said not to. I am now confused. Yes or no ExtROM run after hard reset after new ROM flash?

If you are new, just let the extrom run. There's no harm in doing that (in fact that's the intended procedure).

After you get more familiar with how the device works, you can hard reset again and pick & choose only the most essential files to run from the extrom. This will save you a few megabytes of space in your storage which you can then use for other things.

AHHHHH .. gotcha. I didn't let it run this time. I don't know how to pick and choose stuff from the Ext ROM but I think something needed to install. I can't use my Sprint EVDO connection with Saridnours 3.5pr6 ROM. I think I made a "DOH" somewhere
